timsilvia32 (244), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2008 Charlotte Octoberfest. Black pour, slight cream colored head. Roasted malt, light cocoa aromas. Some roast malt and coffee flavor throughout, a small amount of mocha/chocolate. A little chalky or "powdery" I guess. Maybe a bit confused on what they were trying to accomplish here, but overall not bad. A step above normal, but not near the top of this style. Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 3, 2008 Enjoyed on nitro at Mahonney’s in Baltimore. Black stout with a thick head. Medium mouthfeel. ucusty (1210), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 7, 2007 This is a very underrated beer. Black pour with thick off white head. mocha and espresso and a sweet finish. slightly creamy tasting. DrBayern (976), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Mar 25, 2007 On draft at the brewery. Black pour and a creamy tan head. Coffee aroma dominates iwth little else noted. Smooth and creamy, but somewhat lacking in body. Sweet, but not cloying, and the only bitterness present is provided by the roasted malt. Failry one dimensional, but OK to accompany the pub fare. Sledge Jr (2720), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Feb 27, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a brown head. Strong coffee roasted aroma. has a big lactose sweetness that overpowers any possible coffee or roasted taste. Fairly capable sweet stout. I think this is a solid example of the style.
