3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an opaque brown-black with practically no head and minimal lacing and retention. Restrained aroma, but milk chocolate most prominent with roasted malts following behind. If the aroma is subtle, the taste is not. This beer is very flavorful with a roasted malts mingling with chocolate flavors. Problem is that this is all wrong. It’s as if someone took a perfectly fine porter and put cocoa in it it. It simply tastes artificial. Mouthfeel is okay.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle: pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aromas are chocolate and sugar. Taste is a bit disappointing, watery mouthfeel, and only a light roasty chocolate flavor. Easy drinking and if I didn’t have my hopes up I wouldn’t feel as let down.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled at Big Brew Beer Festival (Morristown). Poured a dark brown color with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, and chocolate. Taste is thin and watered down, with light notes of chocolate, caramel, and roasted malt.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. Ruby brown-burgundy body. Creamy beige head. Honey, brown chocolate in the aroma. A pretty decent Winter Warner, really throwing some Porter into the equation. On the fuller side of medium bodied. Not the thick, opaque black beer of years past. The honey really throws it over the top in terms of sweetness. Could use some hop character to even it out. OK.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown with a medium head that dissipates relatively quickly. Mild cocoa aroma. Taste is sweet with toasted malt and cocoa. Mouth feel is on the thin side. If you really pay attention you can taste the honey smoothness in the finish. It’s fine. Nothing special.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, lasting, light beige head, with slight lacing, over a clear ruby brown (SRM 25) body.....nose is light cocoa, hints of cinnamon, cereal....taste is light malts, with cereal, light cocoa, hints of honey sweetness, ending with hints of bitterness...mouth feel light of medium, carbonation low with light acid. This is a remarkably light Porter given that there were additions to the recipe. The malt back bone is too subdued, and hops are minimally present. BJCP 6/3/9/4/5

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Best by April 21, 2014.
Appearance: The body is a beautifully hued garnet with excellent clarity. The beautiful garnet is only seen through a light though, it appears a dark brown when sat down. Unfortunately there’s no head to speak of, only a very thin ring with a light coating.
Aroma: The aroma is almost non-existent. I smell some cocoa and some roasted malts, but they are hard to pick up. Upon swirling they are a bit more noticed, but definitely very hidden.
Taste: The flavor is stronger than the aroma, thankfully. There’s an underlying honey sweetness with a matching cocoa powder overlay. The cocoa reminds me a bit of Yoo-Hoo. The flavor is mild, but enjoyable, though a bit cloying after two sips.
Palate: Crisp body with mild carbonation, near full-bodied.
Overall: This is close to being a good beer, it really is. The problems I have are the flavor is a bit cloying and the aroma is completely lacking. Thankfully the flavor is mild though so it’s not overly cloying. I would give this a try again if I heard good things from next years batch.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Roasted barley aroma with notes of cocoa. Pours dark brown with a short, light brown head and good lacing. Taste is very interesting. Cocoa and roasted barley to start. Finishes smooth with the sweetness from the honey really coming through nicely that lingers on the palate. Overall flavor is a little thin but still a good winter sipper.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a deep black with a huge bubbly off-white head that lingers. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, wood, grass. Taste is week, of dark chocolate, toasted malt, brown sugar. Lingering chocolate malt that ends watery. Nice nose, but the taste doesn’t match.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Bottle). Mild aroma includes some light cocoa and well roasted malts. Minimal head and very light body. The flavor has lots of roasted malt with some bitter-sweet cocoa flavor inserted. Please note, the artwork has changed on the label and the name "winter warmer" is now replaced with seasonal ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
