Nice dark rich hue. Tall head, but dissipates rather quickly, good lacing remains. Aroma reminds me of chocolate, light but delicious. A little on the hoppy side, normal for an IPA, just not my favorite. good ABV balance.

FROM NOTES: July 6, ’12 Poured from a 16 ounce bottle into a pint glass. A: Chocolate sweetness with a touch of pungent hops, works well together although somewhat faint. A: A hazy dark dark brown with a thick tan colored head that leaves nice lacing down the glass. T: Heavy on bitter roasted malt as well as some hop spiciness that is piney and earthy. P: A good feel, medium body with a nice smooth peppery carbonation. O: I think this is Tommyknockers best that I’ve had to date. No off flavors and this is pretty tasty. Well balanced.

Doft av bitterchoklad. Medelfyllig smak med rostade kaffe och choklad. Viss sötma och behaglig beska trots sina 78 IBU. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

In 12oz bottle. Aroma of a dark, dark chocolate bar. Flavors of smoky chocolate followed by some sweet orangey hops on the edges of the tongue before finishing with more chocolate. Dry finish. Some black IPAs get syrupy, but the rye malts (probably) help this one stay quaffable.

Beer poors deep black with a light beige head that holds relatively well. Aroma is surprisingly light with roast, chocolate, and light floral/citrus notes. Flavor is med sweet, strong roast that slightly masks dank IPA hop presence. And light rye spiciness. Mouthfeel is slightly astringent and dry. Overall, good beer. Aroma is weak, beer tastes more like a black IPA and less like a stout as it warms.

Bottle. Jet black with a thin tan head. Little aroma. Strong hop bitterness at the back of the tongue. Combines with a strong burnt flavor leaving a lasting and rather unpleasant bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours brown with fine khaki head. Aroma is hoppy with moderate to strong roasted malt. Flavor is hoppy initially with a roasted malt, dark chocolate finish. Surprisingly roasted for the style from what I’ve seen, really nice. Soft carbonation, medium-light body, fairly smooth. Nice and roasted, was pleasantly surprised by this, my favorite of their beers so far.
