12oz bottle. Poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan two finger head. Aroma of sweet, roasted malts, citrus hops, and a touch of chocolate. Taste has big malts up front that carry into the middle; bitter chocolate, burnt caramel. Citrus and grapefruit hops add a bit of complexity as they seemingly layer onto the malt character. A little resiny through a sharp bitter finish.Mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish and moderate carbonation.

Pours a very dark brown with a reddish tint tan head leaving heavy lacing. Heavy on a hoppy citrus aroma. Hops hit at the front of the flavor followed by a heavy roasted malt flavor that takes over, notes of coffee and citrus intermingle in a very complex flavor. Pleasant mouthfeel with a flavor that sticks around for a bit. Very good beer.

Dark brown pour, thick khaki head. Aroma is a burst of citrus and hops. Very good citrus taste hoppy all the way through with a bit of coffee and chocolate. Some what of an alcohol burn on the aftertaste. Very good black ipa.

Bottle. Aroma of malts and hops. The taste is slightly watery, chocolate and malty. Very tasty, not terribly hoppy for an "ipa". Very good though! 6.5% alcohol.

Bottle sampled at las cruces tour de beer july 2013 Pours deep brown hue with a small tan soapy head no lacing. Nose of chalky chocolate lite earthy leaffy hops lite roast. Not very complex. Flavors of faint piney hops chocomate lite chalky roasty notes. It is very well balanced but ots more of a porter than an ipa. Long leaffy and piney finish. An ok black ipa

On tap at the brewery, this pours pitch oily black with no real head of which to speak. The nose has chocolate, some maple syrup and some vinous notes. Flavors are of rye, mixed bitter chocolates, caramel, light bitters and finish with rye. Smooth mouthfeel and substantive, this doesn't scream IPA to me like the genre suggests. Not bad, just different. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
