12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a whole bunch of super thick white head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and citrus hops. Taste is medium bitter. Pine and citrus hops with coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, very good. Too bad there are only 2 of these in the sampler pack.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 StouterRick (32) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - DEC 8, 2012
Very well balanced. The chocolate rye malt and bitter roasted hop combo make this kind of an IPA/Stout hybrid. Very drinkable.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 VitaminR (540) - Colorado, USA - FEB 25, 2011
Citrusy almost minty nose some hints of chocolate. Deep dark brown black color, amber hues, opaque, big thick frothy long lasting head. Rich malts, deep sweetness balanced by pronounced bitterness, big hop flavors and aromas come through. Mild roast, big chocolate notes, mild rye spicy flavor in the background. Medium carbonation, silky body, alcohol is warming, but not hot. Serious depth to this beer and I really enjoyed it, big rich dark malty flavors balanced by the hops, one of the better black IPAs in Colorado.

Different label than pictured. Pours a deep amber and red color with a nice tan head. Smell is mostly American hops, citrus, with a heavy dose of pine. Head stuck around for an average amount of time, nice and creamy though. Taste has some roasted caramel, more then other night time IPAs. Some mild dustiness in there. Mouthfeel is not to thin. Nothing ground breaking, but a very enjoyable beer.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Butters (3325) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 20, 2011
Beautiful dark brown pour with deep mahogany highlights and wonderful sticky tan head. Aroma of coffee and sweet green hops. Flavor is amazing as well. Spicy due to the rye, but balanced with the hops that taste ’wet’. Medium body with a Spicy finish. This is a VERY good beer, and I don’t even care for rye!

500ml bottle.Pours a dark brown with a fluffy light brown head that sticks around.Nose is funky as hell with a beautiful hop aroma(pine, grass, citrus) and coffee but mostly hops.Taste is very smooth with bitter and herbal hops with creamy toasted malts. The hop display in this beer is remarkable.Easily the best BIPA I’ve tried...

Bottle. Pours a lovely dark with litlte carbonation. Great citrusy hoppy smell with the malt quickly coming after. Taste is a a great balace of malt and hops. Just a wonderful balace of the stout-like grains and the IPA hops.

Capones-Norristown bottle store. Delicious beer, the ranking it received from the editor is too low in my opinion. Pours a chocolate like brown, with a lacing tan head. Aroma is out of this world. With a unique blend of citrus sweetness and bitter coffee. Taste is outstanding, it has a blend of flavors that is hard to describe, one sip you taste the citrus like bite, second sip you might taste the hint of a smoke like finish, the third could suprise you with the coffee bitterness you get from a good stout. I love this beer. Highly recommended.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 fiercepanda (356) - Missouri, USA - SEP 9, 2011
A black beer with a faint ring of brown on the edges, a thick tan head and nice lacing. The aroma is surprisingly malty, a very delicious smelling chocolate scent. The flavor is also chocolate with a slight floral hoppiness that is almost lost in the malt. Balanced really well and just delicious, the best I’ve had from Tommyknocker.

16oz bottle-pours a retaining rich tan head with trailing lace and black color that has some cascading. Aroma is rich dark malt/oat/grain-cocoa/bready overtaken by resin hops. Taste is sweet medium/dark malt/grainy/rye-roasty, balanced with pine/resin/grapefruit hops with some bite. Medium body. OK effervescence. I’mtorn on the aroma, so in memory (or in honor) of dak…10.
