csbosox (937), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Mar 11, 2008 Thanks Jim! This beer is at least 2 years old, I think the notches indicate it was bottled on Sep. 28, 2005, but IMO notches typically are not very reliable. 12oz bottle, served at 46° right out of beer fridge #1. Aroma is chocolate, melanoidins, cream, light nuttiness and earthiness. Possibly a hint of maple syrup, but it could be the malts... Dark crimson red color with a smallish, but persistent head. Looks like a small amount of fine matter has settled out of the beer, it now clings to the bottom of the bottle. No floaties in the beer and the clarity is excellent. The taste, at first, is nutty and malt forward with some toasty and mildly roasty grains followed by more of the same. There is some sweetness that lingers into the finish, but fades away before the malt flavor does. It is not a bad American brown ale.
obxdude10 (1387), Reading, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 15, 2008 This beer poured a dark brown color with nice lacing left around the glass. The aroma was of nuts and naturally a subtle hint of maple syrup. The flavor and body were very smooth with notes of toasted bread, barley, oatmeal and a slight bit of cream. The body is very sweet, and so is the finish and aftertaste. I didn’t taste a whole lot of the advertised maple syrup, so I was a little disappointed. But it’s still a bit better than most average brown ales. thehoff (518), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Jul 2, 2008 Smells syrupy sweet. Very malty in the smell. Oatmeal cereal with milk smell. Dark brown body with bubbly thin cream head. Taste is very light and sweet. It tastes a little like maple but something else sweet there that I can’t quite place. Not bad but I couldn’t drink too much. GMCC2181 (303), Bear, Delaware, USA Jul 1, 2008 Damn! What a low rating for an ok beer... Well aroma is sweet maple sugar. Taste is sweet maple syrup. It is a little watery.... Also caramel, roasted malt and hint of chocolate. Not bad, just a little thin. An ok beer obvoiusly not my favorite brown ale but ok...Thanks StFun! alobar (580), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 25, 2008 Pours a dark brown with an off-white head. Malts and maple with hint of hops on the palate. Nose of maple. Average beer. jimhilt (1356), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Jun 23, 2008 Pours a three finger cream head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Clear mahogany color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Malty maple nose. Flavor is sweet maple smooth, hops balance but are in background. $1.80 for a 12oz bottle from Yankee Spirits South Attleboro, Ma.
