Pours a nice clear brown. Tight, lacing, off-white head. Nutty caramel with a bit of hop background in the aroma. Sweet maple and caramel flavors are gently toned down by moderate hops. Healthy body with soft carbonation. Nice residual sweetness lingers.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass purchased in Denver. I like it a lot. At first I thought it was sweet, but I may be associating maple with syrup.

"Really light generic maple/caramel aroma and flavor with some light roast and a slight medicinal aspect. Not too impressed with this one............."

Beer of the month club offering. Pours a clear brown with almost no head whatsoever. Sweet and malty aroma. Really enjoyed the taste - definitely had some sweetness from the maple syrup, and there was a core nutty-taste typical of brown ales. Good, easy to drink beer.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, ivory head, with slight lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 20) body......nose is light cocoa, hints of chocolate, no hops, balance to the malts.....taste is slightly sweet, with cocoa, chocolate, slight spice notes, minimal hops, balance to the malts.....mouth feel, light of medium body, no alcohol, low carbonation, with slight acid. Although this beer has no major flaws, it is simple and light. There are many better examples out there. It lacks hop aroma and flavor, since it is slightly sweet, it falls into the "Southern English Brown" category of the present BJCP vernacular. To improve it would require a substantial redo of the malt bill and a reconsideration of hop types and quantities. BJCP 6/3/12/4/6

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good nut brown color with thin light tan collar, decent lacing. Aroma is maple sweetness, and a nutty-caramel aroma as well. Taste is also nutty, caramel with the maple taking a big presence. Thin body for a brown and low carbonation. Needs a better malt backbone and maybe some more hops both up front and at the end.

Mmm, this is a tasty brown! Decent brown pour w/ a solid hazelnut aroma. The taste follows through w/ the hazelnut is very smooth! Like it a lot!

22oz bottle 11/99 (Old Notes)-Pours a medium brown with a decent size head. Aroma of malt, nut, maple, and slight caramel. Taste of the same with more nuts. This medium bodied brew is a bit lacking and not balanced. Was expecting more.

Twelve ounce bottle from Beer Of The (Every Other) Month Club, tasted on April 20, 2013. Medium brown/amber hue, medium tan head, nice sweet malty nose with definite maple syrup notes, good sweet flavor much like the aroma. Canít understand the overall low ratings--maybe itís because Tommyknocker isnít "cool", like 3 Floyds or Stone. To those who run this brewery: better start going to the right parties and kissing the right asses
