3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Standard draught. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), moderately hoppy (resin), moderately yeasty (sweat). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, heavily bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Didnít care too much for the yeasty/resinous aroma, but the flavor balance was terrific.

Rating: 8 3 5 2 13 = 3.1
Odd results...loved the cask versionís aroma, didnít like acidity...loved the standard versionís flavor profile, but didnít like the aroma. Arrrgh. Averaged the score here, which was easy considering the net score was nearly identical.

Pick Axe Ale. This must be like the miners drink.
If they spent more time on brewing and less on the cutesy naame they might have something.
Not a good beer not bad, not anything. Poor flaver no hops little carbonation.
What a waste.

Good Pale Ale, nice floral flavor/malty, though I would like a bit more hops at the finish. GABF 2002

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A pretty good, easy drinking pale ale. Almost a bridge beer for lager to IPA drinkers. Clear, copper colored. Flavor is English, especially pronounced in the aftertaste. Saaz in the finish make this a unique pale ale. Floral Goldings are also prevalent. Not overly hoppy and easy to drink. Summer session beer if you like sweet beers.

Great, sugary-caramel nose, which presents itself in the flavor also. Amber in color with a humble head. Big malt flavors of biscuit and caramel. Texture is a little watery, which sails down the throat without any effort. Mild hop flavors with some bitterness in the finish. This beer might go well with pancakes!

Pleasant fruity aroma, not much flavor or mouthfeel upfront, but a tingling on the tongue and a sweet then kind of bitter aftertaste.Flavor stays in you mouth and throat afterward. Not very effervesent, not much foam reminds me of the local brewpub beers.

Wonderful lemon rind-citric hoppy aroma. Strong but not in your face. Copper color with med creamy head and plenty of lacing. Good retention. Very creamy and balanced palate. Nice caramel malt presence and good hopping, with citrusy hop flavors. So easy drinking, the beer just disappears in the glass.
