An average, middle of the road pumpkin ale, maybe a little heavier on the clove? Not as sweet as some. Decent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

dalekliz (874) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 26, 2013
Bottle. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small off-white head that fades. Aroma of malt, yeast, sour dark fruits, a hint of pumpkin and spices. Taste starts with a yeast and sour fruit bite, then mellows into malt, creamy pumpkin, and a bit of spices. Lingering creaminess. Decent pumpkin beer, but could use more pumpkin.

This is the darkest pumpkin I’ve seen. Light brown w/ frothy tan head. Initially malty, but then balances out. Pretty hoppy and actually not too much pumpkin flavor w/ med to thin body. Finish is weak thin and slightly off putting flavor.

Pailhead (4809) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - AUG 17, 2013
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy ginger, lighter nutmeg, clove, allspice, and a touch of pumpkin. It pours dark brown with some red transparency when held to the light. It has a one finger soapy off-white head that fades to a soapy film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with light pumpkin and a touch of molasses. The finish has cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, light grain, and a touch of clove. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, the I could do without the grainy flavors, but still a solid pumpkin beer if you like the style.

Voodoo (311) - Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 16, 2013
UPDATED: AUG 17, 2013 Pours the color of cola soda with little to no head. Aroma is nutmeg, hard to pick anything else out with no head. Since this is a cross between a pumpkin and a harvest (unless I’ve read something incorrect into the lableing) it has understandably less pumpkin taste than normal, but the harvest part of the ale is not coming through either. Mouthfeel is weak, unmistakeable molasses flavor comes through a bit though a tad burnt, and the taste hangs around quite a while. A great idea but this needs work and more ingredients to fill the bill.

Aroma: Caramel malt aroma dominates the nose. Difficult to find spices, which I thought would be more apparent. Malt overpowered the spice. No hop aromas. Appearance: Nice rich dark orange/brown color. Clarity was good. Poured a moderately low head. Thought it would be more for a 5% beer. Taste: Heavy malt bomb. So much so that the pumpkin/spices were difficult to discern, similar to aroma. Had a harsh graininess to it that made tasting it unpleasant. No noticeable infections. Palate: Low carbonation lends a very full mouthfeel. Thick and viscous with some astringency. Possibly sparged with water that was too hot, pulling tannins from the grain husk. Overall: Not a very good beer. With the plethora of Pumpkin beers on the market, there is no need to pick this up. The beer’s heavy mouthfeel and overpowering malt in the nose and taste points to underattenuation. Possibly mashed/sparged too hot which could explain the harshness and astringency.

Not a big fresh pumpkin flavor but I did get the pumpkin, which worked well with the cinnamon and spices. Overall a bit thin in the mouthfeel and taste.

Heathen (1463) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - APR 18, 2013
THOUGHTS: Decent beer, but I don’t know if I would have guessed it was a pumpkin beer. Flavorful and easy to drink, but a little watery in body. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium brown with red highlights when held to light and an average, tan head that kept a decent sheet and left fair lacing. The aroma had moderate caramel, molasses, chocolate and roasted malts; light herbal hops; hints of pumpkin pie spices; cola, slight sour pumpkin and vegetal pumpkin. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet, slightly sour and lightly bitter with a short duration. Overall, it was a little watered down. There was molasses, caramel, roasted malts, cola, and a little sour pumpkin. The medium body was watery with soft, yet tingly carbonation and a dry and lightly astringent finish.

This pumpkin brew pours a medium brown color with a slight off-white head. The aroma is somewhat reminiscent of Libby’s pumpkin filling out of a can. There is more of an Oktoberfest taste to this brew rather than pumpkin. Lots of harvest spices hit your taste buds. Also, getting a little bit of that molasses too in the taste with only hints of pumpkin. Not a great pumpkin beer but also not bad, so the average rating this beer has is appropriate. Depending on the pumpkin brews in you area, this may be worth a try!
