2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Looks like cola, slightly malty aroma. Tastes a bit like cola, a bit of malt, a bit of hops, zero pumpkin or pumpkin spice. Palate is fine but maybe a bit overcarbed. This beer is bad.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(bottle) Pumpkin beer in mid-August? Might as well make them available year-round. Pours a very dark red color with a medium sized off-white head with some wisps of lacing. Aroma contains a touch of pumpkin character, but thatís soon drowned out by an inordinate amount of spice that kick the olfactory bulb. Spice is of the cinnamon and allspice stripe. Glimmers of pumpkin pie, but the scent is never sustained. Flavor has the same characteristics as the aroma, but the pumpkin is even more dialed down here, and the spice streaks across in the mid which creates a dryness that isnít all that pleasant to experience. Thereís a faint toasty element here too and a bit of caramel. Spice lingers on, with a faint touch of crust in the far finish. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is appropriate. Overall this isnít a bad pumpkin beer, although the pumpkin should be more prominent.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle:   Deep amber, fairly dark, or darker than I expected.   Moderate frothy off-white head, spotty lacing.   Somewhat of a strong spicy nose, not too bright, but feels a bit heavy.   Similar tongue, a little dull but the spices are heavy.   Just not vibrant.   However, its clean, the spices dont vanish right away, and the underlying body feels decent.   Clean finish, same dull spices linger a bit.   In a way, the fact that the spices arent too sharp lets them blend in a bit better.   I bet an imperial version of this beer would be real good!   Thanks for the bottle Jason!

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Poured deep garnety-amber with a dense beige head. The aroma picked up a lovely blend if pumpkin meat, nutmeg, and molasses, with some cinnamon and biscuity notes too.. warm and welcoming. The flavor found molasses and lesser pumpkin meat at the core.. dry, somewhat oxidized spices around (nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove).. finished with tacky spices and a slight soapy character. Light-medium bodied and dry on the palate.. just an OK flow.. started out better than it finished.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Appearance: pours deep and dark Ė mahogany, ruby, black cherry. Off-white head fades fast into a collar and head of broken film. Swirls with a bubby collar, no lace.
Nose: rich and intriguing. Cinnamon sticks and chocolate are one and the same. Roasted and slight charred pumpkin and spices. Maple and molasses for a sweet edge. Roasted chestnuts and chocolate lead into símores and graham crackers. Pumpkin spice cake.
Palate: medium bodied and silky smooth mouthfeel. Pumpkin spiced breads and cake, pulp, and more spices. Chocolate and graham in the breath. Lightly dries the palate, sweet silken maple and molasses along the edges. Fire roasted pumpkin ending in sweet molasses and maple with cinnamon sticks.
Final Thoughts: delicious. For my first foray into Tommyknocker I am impressed. A rich and never overwhelming pumpkin harvest ale to welcome the chill with. Iíll gladly drink this seasonal year after year after year.

1.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
UPDATED: SEP 11, 2014 Pours a cloudy dark brown with a thin head. Looks thick - visually. The aroma is molasses, pumpkin, and a faint "toasty-chocolate". I get a funky yeast aroma as well. Taste is disappointing. The malt flavor disappears quickly along with the spices. The flavors are muddled and itís hard to distinguish anything. Leaves me wanting.
