3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. My first Welsh beer. Pours a maroon red color with a frothy beige head. Aroma is of toasted malts, hops, dark fruit and caramel. Flavor is of the toasted malt, hops, floral and fruity notes (not in the way of dark fruit though), along with some toffee and caramel notes. The body is medium and slightly dry. Overall a pretty nice ESB. Nice to have a slightly mild British beer, after having so many big and bold American beers.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark ruby with a generous, well-retained beige collar draping the glass. Attractive roasted and slightly lactic aroma hinting at milk chocolate, iron and maple; maybe some faint cabbage lurking in the background. Fair enough. Creamy and full with silky, brown ale-like Curly Wurly and malt loaf tones; a little soap, balancing hop bitterness. Solid roasty finish with a lick of ash in the aftertaste. Finely dusted and lactic like a decent Belgian take on a stout. I liked this- definitely one of the better Welsh beers I’ve had of late.
