An authentic abbey ale
The age-old tradition of the White Canons of Tongerlo lives on in this officially recognised Belgian abbey ale.

Re-fermented in the bottle

Slappe dubbel, proefde amper verschil met een blond bier. Ver weg smaak van caramel en gebrande mout, maar het bos net spa rood.

Tap. Disguised as "Ras Import" in Haderslev, cleared up by Bamsen. Very dark brown, thick light beige head. Caramel and brown sugar aroma with yeasty notes. Similar flavour with the yeast a bit more pronounced plus hints of dried fruit. Decent.

Pours dark brown with an initial tan head that doesn’t last. The aroma contains roasted malts, caramel, brown sugar, toast and some fruits. Tastes medium to light sweet with a roasty, short dry aftertaste. The palate is underwhelming, though: quite a light body, compensated by good carbonation, but something metallic in the taste. Succeeds in aroma, falls short in taste and palate.

Draught @ Ras, Haderslev. Pours clear dark ruby / copper brown with airy but stable light tan head. Clear aroma of fruit, malt and touches of caramel. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with notes of fruit and Belgian yeast. Estery and slightly acidic aftertaste with nutty hints. A reasonable Dubbel.

Bière en bouteille. Pas de caractères très typés pour cette brune de Tongerlo. Des goûts de caramel et de chocolat sont perçus en bouche lors de cette dégustation.

Bottle. Dark brown colour, lively head which quickly disappears, high carbonation, metallic & bitter, not repulsive but l’ll not repeat the experience.

Bottle (4 months past BBE). Deep amber color with a lasting foamy brown head. Aroma of caramel, syrup, raisin, vanilla and spices. Mostly dry taste with some bitterness. Medium body.

Ambra scuro con netti riflessi rossi. Schiuma compatta beige scuro. Note tostate e speziate al naso. Un po’ deludente al palato, bevuta piatta e molto frizzante, media dolcezza, secco finale. Discreta ma niente di più.
