Is a robustly flavored ale made with top fermentation ale yeast. The beer is lightly hopped and black malt gives it darker color. The fruity ale-like esters blend well with the subtle hoppiness and hints of coffee/chocolate to deliver a unique beer.

Mild nutty aroma, red brown colour with a white lasting head. Quite smooth, not an awful lot of flavour but a sound choice at most pubs.

Found tasting Notes from my 2009 trip to Australia. Tasty ale. Some Caramel and fruit. Touch of a metallic aftertaste, but not enough to ruin it.

Looks like a flat coke in the glass. Minimal head. Overall an easy drinking dark ale. Nothing special and little sessional. Someone else thought it was like a Schwarzbier and I’d have to go along with that but add that there roasted malts come through far more prominently than in a black lager.

Explained to me as "the coal miner’s beer". Still pretty good stuff, mildly sweet, caramel, nutty. Brown body with small airy head, easy drinker.

On tap at Mortdale pub. Schooner of black! Very faint malt nose. Dark ruby red with thin but lasting head. Spritzy but robust. Clean bitter finish with a little coffee/cocoa right at the end. Brown ale? More like a dark lager, I think.

Bottle into pint glass. Pours a clear dark brown amber colour. Aroma is stone fruit. Taste is sweet malt. Mouth feel is a bit thin. This beer is...........ok. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Clear brown, cappuccino head. Aroma of light roasted malts with some caramel and burnt wood. Taste is a. Is true of rossi ness and some caramel sweetness, light cocoa beans.

If desperate times call for desperate measure, i.e. you’re in a shitty Sydney pub that has all the big sterile beers like VB or Tooheys New and there’s this, you’ll find it at least attempts to have some sort of flavour. It’s by no means good, but a man must do what a man must do.

Keg. Poured a dark brown with slight ruddy hues and a small, somewhat lasting, lacing light beige head atop. Nutty, malty sweet characters of mid, dark and fried fruits, roasted malts and then some pithy yeast complexities. Light to medium body, medium carbonation and finishing with a moderate intensity, modest length bitterness.
