rmussman (688), California, USA Jul 7, 2008 This beer actually has some flavor, which is nice for a change. Overall its pretty good, has a bit of a aftertaste but worth a try.
ComradeK (7), Australia does not count Aug 29, 2008 Overall not a bad beer, and certainly the best available on tap in NSW pubs. Very dark in colour, with a strong flavour that has hints of coffee. Begins strongly on the palate, fading to a long, smooth and creamy finish. Good, but not brilliant. Unholy_Brewing (287), Melbourne, Australia Aug 17, 2008 ...bottle. Was actually surprised at this. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Poured a dark reddish brown, with a small tanish head. Was medium bodied, went down smooth, with some roasted malt and maybe some slight dark fruit notes. Finish was creamy with a weird aftertaste that was not good and ruined it. Overall, not that bad. Blockley (4), Sydney, Australia does not count Jun 3, 2008 Probably the best beer available in a normal NSW pub; certainly beats the popular macro beers like New and VB. The beer pours a very dark red, almost black colour, with a short-average lasting white head. The beer has a distinct coffee and dark chocolate taste and an aroma, which isn’t very strong, that mirrors it with the addition of a roasty smell. Overall a decent beer. MBison (374), Southern Highlands, Australia Apr 6, 2008 Bottle (375ml). Tooheys Old is always a great “fill in” session beer when there is nothing but pale lagers at your local pup, not the best but it gets the job done. Poured a deep ruby (almost black) with a dense frothy, off-white head which was average lasting. Aroma was of smoky roasted malts with some espresso coffee (mild), dark chocolate and some raisins. Flavor was a light bitterness with some roasted malts, sweet toffee, chocolate, very mild notes coffee, hints of dates and a nutty finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, watery texture, dry mouthfeel and an average finish.
