After endless hours of scorching in heat, brewing in turmoil, fermenting in angst, the Assassin’s journey has just begun. In the shadow of the temple, he lies in wait, maturing his plot to perfection. He emerges merciless, dominated by darkness, his bite laced with the charred remnants of his victims. No man dares to cross his path. They will forever sleep with one eye open, in fear of the Assassin’s hot kiss of death.

2014. Bottle to glass. Pours a thick deep down to black color. Deep roasted chocolatey malts, dark fruits, bourbon. Thick, chewy, fantastic.

Gild wax... 2014? Nose is chocolate & bourbon and tons of sweetness. Initial taste is... Hotness. Lots of barrel presence. After getting past that, Taste is sweet rich chocolate & vanilla. Tasty but the heat is distracting. Nice mouthfeel and the beer pours beautifully.

How: Bottle (22 oz) at tasting. 2014 vintage. Shared by hackobock, thanks!

>>>A massive, rich, complex and flawless Imperial Stout that is up there with the best but doesn’t have the "wow" factor that come to be expected from such an hyped beer.

+ Rich, deep and complex flavor profile
+ Balance is rather good for such a monster beer, the body is strong enough to support everything that is going on and the light soy sauce not only isn’t disturbing but also gives the beer a light salty touch that help to "lighten" in a bit
+ The palate is especially interesting with the full body, the oily, thick and rich mouthfeel, the mouth coating sweetness and the nice alcohol warmth in the finish along salty notes and wood spiciness
While this beer is really good and on par or close with the best of the style (in fact, it’s really close to KBBS), it is not much different than so many very good american imperial stouts. For example, I thought the Barrel-Aged Vietnamese Speedway Stout that we had at the same tasting was much better.

Flavors: Molasses, dark chocolate, fudge, roasted malts, alcohol, soy sauce (mild), wood spiciness

Bottle shared by hackobock, thanks a lot Jacob! Pours a deep black with no head and low lacing. Nose is of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is pretty sweet and offers chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Body is full, carbonation low to medium and there is some hot alcohol in the finish. Overall a nice and rich big american imperial stout but I can’t say I enjoyed it more than the average big american imperial stout. Hyped much?

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Yellow wax, 2013. Inky black. Stains the glass. Small mocha head with surface wisps. Woo, big rye whiskey aroma. Lightly fruity. Coffee with a bit of its accompanying acidity. Dark chocolate. Whiskey is secondary to the dark chocolate in the taste. It spices it up though. Coffee then vanilla. Oak. Lots of sweetness. Rye whiskey sustained throughout. Very thick. Medium carbonation. A little boozy but that isn’t a problem. Excellent. The beer is great despite that I don’t love rye barrels.

22oz bottle 2014 gold wax vintage pours viscous dark black brown with a small finger of dark head. Nose is layered dark bourbon chocolate, peanut, wood spice, baker’s chocolate, fudge, vanilla. Palate is similar with super creamy soft mouthfeel, thick, dark chocolate marshmallow vanilla, fudge, peanut, sweet, bourbon spice. Finishes with sweetness, big bourbon chocolate complexity, lived up to the hype.

22oz bottle gold wax dip. Thanks to Darrel. Worthy of its reputation. Inky black pour, stout body picks up all the right notes from the whiskey barrels. Smoky, roasty, boozy....
