Mega Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Big cheers to Senior Bois for this treat. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is softish and semi dry. Rich dark malt cream and dark chocolate. Lighter coffee cream and a touch of spice. Underneath are bourbon accentuated dark fruits. Rich and sumptuous.

Bottle shared in London during the First Tasting of the New Year. Big thanks to C-Train. Pours oily black-brown with a thick, creamy brown head. Looks good. The nose has rich chocolate, mild roast, raisins. Medium to big sweet flavor, lots of oily chocolate, buckets of molasses, iodine, chocolate cake. Full bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Lightly warming to finish with sticky sugars, more molasses, syrupy chocolate, burnt marshmallows, black urbanites, raisins. Decadent. Deep. Great beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pitch black pour with a small, short-lived, creamy, beige head. The nose is a decadent mélange of fudge, toasted nuts, a splash of vinous tawny port and a light rye whiskey component. Full-bodied and chewy with laid-back carbonation. The flavor is bittersweet and deeply roasted with splashes of sweet port and warm rye. Nice, deeply-roasted finish with a lingering rye whiskey aftertaste. World class beer from a world class brewer (badbeer)!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
651mL yellow wax 2013 bottle at the SDBW kickoff bottle share. Pours a deeper black, cola highlights. Aggressive, reddish foam. Nose is big sticky alcohol, not much going on at all. Taste is rich melted dark chocolate, some red fruitiness, lots of sugar piling on, flashes of soy and seaweed. Just too sweet for me.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle as Dexter’s, pre-GTMW, huge thanks to Clark and the rest of the crew! Poured inky black with a swirly dark beige head. The aroma picked up rich chocolates, coffee, and molasses with plenty of roast to ’em.. subtle, complementary whiskey, black pepper, and oak accented.. rich and lovely. The flavor found lightly-smoked dark chocolates, coffee, and maple at the core with tangy rye whiskey and oak accents.. a lot more oak and peppery whiskey over decadent malts on the long finish. Heavy-bodied and syrupy on the palate.. buttery-smooth across the middle.. great balance. This was most excellent!
