UPDATED: OCT 24, 2014 (2014 Release - Gold Wax - PVW Barrel)
Bottle... This beer still rocks!... Pours Marshal Zhukov-black with a tiny, brief head. The aroma is a swirl of fudge, bourbon, vanilla, lightly toasted coconut, chocolate crème and cinnamon. Huge-bodied and velvety with pillow-soft carbonation. The flavor is rich, boozy, bittersweet and burnt. A bit too sweet, but otherwise absolutely delicious. Love this year’s treatment even more than last years. Bottle courtesy of the always-generous ctipping!
Original Rating (2013 Release - Yellow Wax - Rye Barrel) = 4.2
Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pitch black pour with a small, short-lived, creamy, beige head. The nose is a decadent mélange of fudge, toasted nuts, a splash of vinous tawny port and a light rye whiskey component. Full-bodied and chewy with laid-back carbonation. The flavor is bittersweet and deeply roasted with splashes of sweet port and warm rye. Nice, deeply-roasted finish with a lingering rye whiskey aftertaste. World class beer from a world class brewer (badbeer)!
