Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, roast, some milk chocolate notes into a bit of dark fruit, slight earthy, spicy notes into a bit of oats. On tap. Poured deep brown with a spotty beige head. The aroma picked up roasty black and lesser coffee malts paired with a touch of sourness.. decent stuff. The flavor found well-roasted black malt and coffee at the core, with vanilla and rolled oat accents.. tasty. Light-medium bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. a tad smoky.. well-balanced.

22 oz bottle shared by a kind soul at Chickow day. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma and flavor have nice roasted malt, almond nutty character, dark chocolate, nice creamy mouthfeel, solid drinking stout.

8/10/12. On tap at the GTMW pre-party. Black pour with a small tan head. Rich mocha aroma with some roast and char. Light mocha flavor with lingering char and hints of sweetness. Not bad!

Sampler flight on tap at the brewpub (Decorah, IA). Pours a deeper black hue, dark and near opaque body. Blackish with ruby glowing bottom and edges. A frothy tannish head atop dies to a film, laces small. Aromas are a bit of cocoa, roast, and oatmeal sweetness. Biscuits, caramel, and cocoa presence come into the fold. Darker malts, cocoa and roastiness. Silky dark malts, some milk chocolate, oatmeal malt sweetness. Roasty, toasty, sweeter biscuits. Some lactose like feel, but I don’t know if that’s actually here. Silky and sweetness pervade into the middle, some body in there. Backend is toasty, malty, and cocoa. A bit roasty, dry bakers chocolate. This is well put together. Has a firm body, still silky with some good darker malt influence, toasty and cocoa, mellow coffee. Silky sweet dark malts aren’t too out of control. Solid offering.

22oz bottle from pepsican pours a mostly opaque black with some thin white head. Nose has plenty of molasses, some cola, some chocolate, a little brown sugar, some toast, plenty of cookie. Flavor has more cookie, Oreo, some cheap brown sugar, toast, mild coffee, molasses chew. Full finish but also dry. Solid.

Aroma is dark/roasted malts and mild nuttiness. The flavor is dark/roasted malts, light fruit, mild sweetness, a hint of nuttiness and a bitter/acidic finish. Simple but very effective.
