Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of roast, acidic malt, dark cocoa, some slight cherry into a bit of vanilla, some slight coffee. Taste was a mix of thin roast, coffee, slight cocoa into a bit of yeast, spice, touch of vanilla into a bit of acidic malt, finishing bitter.

Tap: Deep, husky brown colored body. Far from "black". Pretty light-hued considering it’s a stout. Not much head, either, just a thin khaki film that grazes the top. Nice aroma of cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, roasted malt, a hint of cream, & plenty of milk chocolate. Bittersweet combo, perhaps a tad more on the sweet side. One dimensional, but delivers as advertised. Flavor includes more bittersweet chocolate, roasted cacao beans, mildly astringent roast, & a faint, back-end sugary sweetness. Scorched brown sugar. I also get a very tiny hint of coffee bean. Nice balance all around, despite the simplicity. A little thin for a stout as well, perhaps enhancing the roasted astringency at times. Overall, though, not bad.

Draft at Jolly Pumpkin in Ann Arbor. Pours black. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is very watered down and disappointing.

Tap at Jolly Pumpkin. Pours dark brown with almost no head. Aroma is cocoa powder, dark chocolate and coffee. Tastes surprisingly bad. How can something with such a great aroma taste like this? Like drinking cocoa powder. Ultra thin and watery. Not good.

Struggling to think of this as a stout. Getting a lot of caramel and little to no roast. Nice beer, but I really can’t think of it as a stout.

On tap at the Michigan Summer Beer Fest. Not much to this one. A little lighter and thinner.

Dark brown color with tan head. Nice chococlate, roasty, nutty aromas. light body, average carbonation. Milk chocolate, medium roast coffee flavors with blackened malts--drying finish---not bad

On draft at the Ann Arbor Pub. Pours a stout brown with an off-tan head. Nose is roast, some earth, some cocoa, and some chocolate. Flavor is similar with roast, cocoa, chocolate, and some earth. Medium in body and pretty nice overall.

Cask at the A2 brewpub. Pours a hazy chocolate brown with a creamy brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a note of light chocolate with dark grains and bread as a backbone. Flavor has a good amount of chocolate up front that becomes slightly bitter with backing dark bread and a bit of dryness.
