3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2011-11-12. This is the tale, of a Chocolate stout, black body with a modest tan head. 3+ Flavour is quite tangy, on a mystical quest to the Isle of Tortuga, with a bit sourness. Sort of an ashen porter character to it that I am not sure if it is intentional or not. And now back to the good part! Cocoa with a bit of a tang to it. Heater on blast, I’m the number one stunner! Dry roast aroma, hints of dry cocoa and a similar tangy quality to it as the aroma. Average to light bodied palate. Okay but I am not loving it. This whole cask is a stout, just waiting for chocolate. Needs more Michael Bolton. YEAAAHH! On cask at Jolly Pumpkin Cafe, Ann Arbor

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Woody, earthen floor cacao husk aroma. Light, toasted sweet chocolate flavor. Dry. There’s some body missing here I think. The dry chocolate roast needs a little more of something to stand up against. Flavorful otherwise.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
draft... nice dark brown body, a bit of head, good looking beer... the nose has some nice bitter chocolate, well rounded... tastes pretty nice, a bit of a sour note that I find distracting but nice chocolate

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tortuga Ale Company Chocolate Stout
On tap at Jolly Pumpkin in Ann Arbor, MI. Pours a black body with an inch thick, dense and very creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice solid throughout. Aroma is very smooth with nice cocoa nibs containing a light bitterness. Soft roast malts with a touch of fruity acidity. Flavor is similar. Very smooth chocolates and roasts up front with some nice, lightly bitter cocoa nibs and roasts coming out towards the end. A touch of fruity acidity again. Roasts, rich milky and dark cocoas, and a slight bitterness kicks up at the end as this finishes smooth and lightly dry and bitter before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Light-medium, very soft and silky body with no real carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid, very easy drinking stout. Nice mix of cocoa bitterness, rich chocolates, and smooth roasts. Good beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the Traverse City Jolly Pumpkin. A black pour that I didn’t write down the head color of. Cocoa aroma with coffee and some dark fruit. Flavor is cocoa again, with dark fruit, molasses, some roastiness. Rather light on the palate. Not so special.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Enjoyed on cask at Jolly Pumpkin in Ann Arbor. Madagascar chocolate. Chocolate and sour imperial stout aroma. Lots of roast. Black with three-eighths of an inch of off-white head, lacing is good. Average mouthfeel for a cask. Good bitter chocolate, and only 30 IBU. Really great cask.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap at the Jolly Pumpkin brewery in Ann Arbor, MI. This stout was dark auburny-brown in color, strong smell of buttery toffee. The texture was wonderfully smooth. Was very sweet and buttery tasting, and the chocolate flavor was instantly noticeable. The stout was a bit thin, but the strong flavor made up for that! Really delicious sweet stout. Hope to enjoy this one again soon.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap during MBF 2010, RBSG. Even in my shitty cup they gave me a great looking pour. Still tasting that Good Harbour from Leelanau... will this after taste ever go away? Big thick thick cap, light milk chocolately bown on a deep brown beer. Massive creamy milk chocolate and on the sweet side but just the perfect amount of sweetness, quiet bitterness, biscuit, weird wheat. Not to fond of this. It sure dropped off in a hurry. I don’t dig this at all. Raining on my face.
