Commercial Description:
Cask: Special for JD Wetherspoons Autumn 2009 International Real Ale Festival.
After his impressive début at our 2008 spring beer festival, renowned Japanese brewmaster Toshi Ishii has now made his third visit to Britain to brew a special beer for JDW. Brewed at Banks’s Brewery, Wolverhampton, this amber ale has a sweet, malty flavour, balanced by a hoppy character and herbal, citrus finish. Hops used: Centennial, Millennium, Simco

Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford, in ’Spoons BF ’09. Amber with a small white head. Spice car air freshener or hair oil malt aroma. Sweet spicy malt taste, pleasantly exotic. A little sourness like lemon zest. Sharp late bitterness. Very nice.

The Fleur-de-Lis, Banbury. Soft tawny amber ringed with lace. Wet hay and faint citrus aroma witha pinch of ginger. Riper, more flowery citrus beneath; tangerine, biscuit, some white grape, paper and cherry sherbet. Mineral softness, English silk. Flimsy but decent. I like Japan and I like Banks’s. Good balance. 14.

A Mes rate. Cask at Baker Street ’Sporks.
Clean copper with an oily film. Strong biscuity malt, very bready. Faint astringent feel. Slightly meaty and fatty. Spooned to death I’m afraid.

Handpulled cask at JDW Baker St. Amber with a loose bubbled off white head. A subtle. varied flavours but very underwhelming considering the hops promissed in the festival program. Watery!

Cask, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, Oadby. Amber with an off-white foam.. Aromas are weetabix and toffee malts with peppery, herbal notes. Flavours are very herbal with grapefruit. Sweet toffee and caramel with a peppery finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol 11/11/09. Amber with a thin white head. Caramel aroma with a touch of marmalade. Sweet, easy drinking flavour with some earthy hops in the finish. Ok.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Amber with white head. Served bitterly cold, but it transpired to be a thin, malty light, a touch herby and sweet. Really quite disappointing unfortunately. Very little impact.
