4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
7th Anniversary release: Deep ruby color with brown highlights. Very light carbonation and thin, wispy head. Fresh malt aroma. Vinuous and woody notes too. Little hops, surprisingly. Big full body and taste. Loaded with flavor. Lots of dark malt. Lots of hops. Vinuous tasting, as if this was aged in wood. Hops and alcohol play in the finish. The alcohol is not as well hidden as it is in the finish, but for this style, a little warmth is welcome. (Also around 7% abv, I think?)

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Amber colored with frothy beige head. Candy cane hops are balanced beautifully by a dark, sweet carme malt. This is dangerously drinkable. It just slides down.
Happy Anniversary Town Hall.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Specially brewed for the 2003 Anniversary in the style of Sierra Nevada's Celebration - Color is a gorgeous cherrywood hue, opaque and solid, with a thin head of darkened cream color and lots of lace in ink blot patches. Smell is wonderful with nice floral pine and freshly so. A small amount of toasty malts in the backing. Nice whiffer of hops. Taste is wildly smooth up front with some malty richness thats lightly sweet then the hops take charge with complexing notes of pineyness of spruce needles and sap, flowers, and freshly dried notions with some super fine bitterness that lingers long. Well balanced and even bitterness and pineyness. Feel is close to full with lots of calming bite with touches of piney bitterness left on the lips lending grapefruit peels and roaming all throughout the mouth. A pleasing beer experience and a one hell of a fine drinkable IPA.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 9, 2003 Aroma of fruit with floral and herbal notes. Red, dark, and cloudy. Full bodied. The taste and aroma reminded me of New Glarus Hop Hearty ale. Excellent.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Murky mahogany-to-reddish color, with full froth above.
Aroma: poppitta-poppitta-POW!!!@! It's all hops, baby, piney, grapefruit, citric, bright cherries, spicy, juicy, tingly, tickling and inviting!
So, drink it, fool!
Glorious delivery on the tongue! Hugely hoppy, terrifically tasty, with excellent malt spine, but this beauty bows before the Hop God, and it is a Mighty and Powerful Lord, dispensing flavor in copious supply!
Resilient, bold, but perfectly blended, brilliantly balanced...every further swallow provides a fresh flood of palpable, even pulpy, fruit flavor (raspberries, cherries, currants, with more waiting in the wings), providing extraordinary texture and taste! A constant, hoppy kick!
Too, too bad this was such an infrequent offering!
A damned tasty IPA, as if the Masala Mama wasn't delicious enough!

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On Cask: NOTE: This year (7th) the Anniversary Ale is not an IPA, but rather what Town Hall calls, and what we beerites understand as, "Celebration Style" after Sierra Nevada’s renown brew. That said, the cask version of this year’s offering is stellar. It is dark, but not overwhelmingly hopped. A full bodied, perfect balance of malt and hop with a whisper of candy. Magnificent on cask!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2003 yumminess. felt good on the tongue. i wish i would have ordered the cask version of this-- though it was still thick and creamy. initially smooth and sweet until the piney IPA hop bitterness kicked in-- but it wasn't overpowering. the flavors didn't stop there like some bad IPAs. the third phase of the sipping experience included flower, fruity citrus and semi-sweet waves of well-crafted goodness that took me to another level and greatly helped me appreciate life.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear deep reddish-brown or auburn color, with a thick mass of tan foam, at least 3" high. Solid lacing through and through. Mild hops in the aroma - much subtler than the flavor would suggest.
Let’s start with the malt - caramel, toffee, and a bit of dry grains. Then a prominently bitter taste kicks in, with lots of citrus and spicy hops. Ample body and carbonation. Excellent.
The beer finishes with the same bittering and spicy hops. There’s just a hint of a licorice flavor in the maltiness that I pick up in the aftertaste.

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2004 Re-rate: 11/15/04. We really should distinguish each Anniversary release as separate beers as each year the recipe is different. The following are my ratings this time around: Aroma 10; Appearance 4: Flavor: 9, Palate 5, Overall 20. Beautiful, fruity, bourbon aroma. Beautiful dark red color with a thin, tan head. Wonderfully rich and alcoholic. Is this the perfect beer? I had it right after the Masala Mama and I enjoyed this one more. Unbelievably good. It is clear that Town Hall takes their anniversaries seriously as evidenced by the quality of their Anniversary ales. Original rating: Heavy hops aroma with hints of grapefruit. Off-white head with fair lacing. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is a hazy reddish brown. Taste is heavily bitter with a good, long duration. Full bodied and lively carbonated. This is yet another excellent offering from the folks at Town Hall, and may be the best one I’ve tried.

Reddish brown brew with a creamy top on it.This was a very interesting brew to me.Kind of reminded my of pouring a nice hoppy IPA into a glass with a mild Imperial Stout.Great hop aroma blended with some dark fruit esters and chocolate, maybe coffee.Great body and lingering flavors.
