UPDATED: MAY 23, 2012 Bottle… WPB Town Hall Meeting 2012… Hazy golden ale with a small, wispy, off-white head. Fantastic retention. The bouquet is a decadent, earthy mélange of coconut, caramel, white wine and raw American oak. Medium-bodied and raspy with prickly carbonation. The moderately bitter flavor is boozy, hot, acrid and a touch acidic. Finishes much the same – boozy-hot, astringent, and then dry. Kudos to landhoney and newcigarz for making this meeting possible!

kbutler1 (1356) - Minnesota, USA - APR 2, 2012
Bottle. Pours a nice rich, copper color with a large foamy white head. The bourbon on this mixed with the hops throws off a "different" aroma that I am not that keen of right off the bat. It’s very different than anything I have had lately. Malty and sweet with bourbon overtones. Overall, a dissappointment in this series but worth a try.

Bottle, thanks to chewey08rx, 03/24/2012. Pours murky orange brown with thin head, medium retention and nice lacing. The nose is mostly bourbon, dominating the IPA base- initially vanilla, toffee caramel, bourbon bite, followed secondarily by syrupy malt character, slightly fruity and citric, mild hop presence. Taste again is initially big bourbon notes, creamy vanilla caramel maltiness, boozy, with fruity, tingling hops coming out in the finish. Hops are more felt than tasted, and linger in the aftertaste. Lush mouthfeel, and despite the booziness, remains easy to drink. The barrel treatment, more so than any IPA characteristic, shines here and makes the beer worth having. Approach more as a barrel-aged strong ale or barleywine.

Bottle via kbutler1, thanks again Kevin! Pours a a medium brown with a faint tan head that is minimal to say the least. Aroma is vanilla, bourbon and malt. Taste is just off. The vanilla and bourbon overwhelm and I get no hops to speak of. I know it is a barrel aged DIPA which in and of itself means it isn’t fresh and the hops will fade but I didn’t find that the other elements of this beer made up for the variation in the style. Overall, a boozy mess that I just did not enjoy. Just taste like 4 year old DIPA with a 1oz of bourbon thrown in.

Very different offering from Town Hall, and I think that was the point. Missed the mark for me. ALL bourbon on this guy, though I believe I had the last glass sold on tap for the weekend, so make of that what you will. Very faint hop presence. Looks like filtered toilet water after a bad night. Minimal head. Pretty smooth going down, however, I’ll agree that the Buffalo Trace is probably what saved this one from being a complete failure. Brewers, take note. DIPA and bourbon barrels are risky.

DalzAle (2000) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - FEB 25, 2012
Tap. Dark hazy brown pour, syrupy hops, warming booze and a hot nose. Flavor is very well blended syrupy hops, caramel and a touch of mild bourbon which seems to round out any abrasiveness of the hops. Surprised by this one, much better than I expected!

Tap at Town Hall. Dirty orange pour with a small soapy head. Aroma and taste of whiskey and citrus hops. Very interesting and good.
