A traditional English special bitter, brewed with British yeast, barley, and hops. This smooth treat has a malt character that is rich in nutty caramel sweetness finished by the flavor and aroma of classic East Kent Golding hops. Made extra special smooth by nitrogen carbonation.

Amber/brown in color. Sweet, fruity, toasted malt in the nose. Flavor is toasted malt, light biscuit, fruity esters, and a light bitter finish. Nothing too spectacular, but okay.

Growler to glass thanks (Bro). Pours clear amber with a tight soapy head. Aroma is sweet and spicy. Taste is bitter sweet cinnamon and ginger. Palate is medium and fizzy with a dry finish.

amber pour with a tight medium head. aroma is cherry, woody, tobacco, sweet malts Flavour was peppery spice, woody hop, nice toffee malt sweetness and a light bitterness to the finish. Overall very nice.

On tap the the brewpub. Poured a clear amber orange with an off-white head that dissipated to the edges and laced slightly. Aroma consisted of notes of caramel and sweet grain with a slight biscuit and undertone of light pine. Flavor started with biscuit and caramel and had a bit of pine coming out in the finish.

Tap. Dark orange pour, medium carbonation and a nice malty aroma. Flavor was also plenty of malt, good meld of subtle hops and a nice and very herbal bitter aftertaste. Well done!

Broken Paddle ESB. Tap at the brewery. Light copper pour with a white head that paints the glass. Acidic nose with British hop characteristics. Taste is dominated by the English hops but there is some sweetness that lingers. Med Palate.

Pours red with thin white head. aroma is full of caramel and biscuity malt with some grassy hops. Taste up front is a bit lemony, grassy, earthy leading into some caramel and biscuit/bread malt with a fairly dry and bitter finish. Average ESB, nice and drinkable.

Pour is copper with very little white head. Aroma is caramel malts and also with some fruity hops. Flavor is caramel malts, some toasted barley and bitter nuts. Nice bitter finish but not quite as easy to down. Good brew tho.

Pint at Town Hall, a darker colored amber brown with a smallish head. Aroma of sweet malt and some hops. The flavor is really not much different from that of the West Bank Pub Ale. This really did not do it for me as an ESB since it did not have enough of the orange marmalade notes I expect in an ESB. The palate is a bit rough and over active. Overall, I was much better off with the Cask IPA today!

Draft @ the brewpub. Copper in colour with low carbonation. Pear and red apple esters on the nose, along with notes of floral UK hops, and a bit of toffee. Hops are upfront in the mouth, but take on new characteristics of earth and wood along with the floral element. Caramel malts and a bit of a toasted bread note provide some balance to this fairly bitter ESB. There’s a mild booze note too. Pretty good overall.
