3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 MIBRomeo (2346) - Wisconsin, USA - AUG 30, 2005
reverse cascading off tan huge frothy white head over a slightly chunky brownish orange body.. BEAUTIFUL. Lightly scotch alchol aroma light citrus hop, very subdued and mellow but nice. Palate was well coated but a bit thin and not that sticky anymore. Flavor was extremly mild tiny bitter and hints of weak orange rind and almost no malt. Pretty good but this beer wasn’t meant to be casked.

This is the Masala Mama that has been cask aged. (we asked the brewmaster). On hand pull at Town Hall. The beer had more of a cascading effect than Guinness. Huge creamy white head. Hazy bronze body. The aroma has some caramelized barley malt with a nice hit of cascade hops. The casking really smooths out all the qualities. The palate is thin and watery, however. The hop oils are mostly gone. A nice beer that is quite different from the non-cask version.

Cask-conditioned: When the server put the glass in front of me the cascading action was still flying up the sides of the glass giving it a super nice pale yellow that eventually turned cloudy deep golden yellowy copper with a fairly decent head that had a white and tight, bubbly foam about a finger high.
The smell is crispy citrus hops, peachy toned with lots of grapefruit and great pineyness and very fresh and juicy mellow smooth hop nose. The malt backing is fabulous with a toasty breadyness.
The taste closely resembles any hoppy IPA lovers dream. Super fresh, zingy and fruity/citrus hops of solid grapefruityness and pine with a great smooth feel and taste thats just so easliy drinkable its not even funny. Quite juicy and fresh. It reaches in, grabs hold and you thank it for that. ...Yum! Has a great toasty malt backing and the lingering piney bittering dryness in the finish is amazing from the cask. One solid medium body, warming, fruitier juices of orange multiply, nearly full with a strong hop finish of grapefruit warmth and a fine resiny pineyness that lingers well. One super fine IPA. Incredible drinkability.

The following was my rating for Masala on Nov 6, 2003, but was really for the Cask IPA... We (my lovely wife Lisa and I) had this on cask at the brewpub. The pint arrived a very hazy golden color with a hint of orange in the bright light of the afternoon sun. The head was tight and creamy. The aroma was very piney. The flavor was a perfect IPA, lots of hops and a good warming action. The palate was very rich and low carbonation due to the cask (nice and ambient temperature too). Overall, this was fantastic!

Had Assumed with Badgerben, That This was Just Masala on Cask, Whereupon It is NOT, I guess. Opague Orange Coloring With Nice White Head. VERY Nice IPA, Not Overwhelmingly Hoppy at All, Instead Very Well Balanced, an improvement over Masala...Some Light Grass/Herb in the Flavor.. Very Nice IPA!!!

Upon asking the waiter, assuming he knows, this is Masala Mama in a cask. Dark orange color with a medium head. Very nice and well rounded hop aroma. The taste is sublime... there’s a fair amount of malt balancing out the hop, but you can still taste a bit of floral. It is insanely smooth and creamy. Damn, what an IPA.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Brewso (238) - Mt Kisco, New York, USA - MAY 3, 2004
This is very similar to the Masala Mama- if not the exact same thing, except on cask. As it was placed before me on the bar, there was a turbidy cascade clearing from bottom to top. The smell was of aromatic, sweet hop. Hop is peachy and sweet, but deep and complex. There is an amazingly satisfying fullness to this IPA with absolutely no abrasive bite. Because of the warmth and lack of carbonation the taste is back-loaded in the mouth and throat. The taste is more intoxicating than the abv. The appearance was a hazy orange and it left behind a complex lace. I really cannot expect more from the style. World class.

freakin' tasty. probably my favorite at this brewpub. floral ipa aroma, but not as pungent as i'd like. sweet and velvety, then hoppy. thick, creamy, white guinness style head. very well balanced flavors. i just wish they were a tad more prominent. nice intoxicating effect, drinkable, and smoooooooth.
