4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 arminjewell (4159) - Saudi Auroria, Colorado, USA - JUN 2, 2010Pours deep black with dark brown head, big coconut, coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt dominate the nose. Taste is a perfect balanced between sweet coconut, chocolate, coffee, caramel, and dark bitter roasted malt with an awesome creamy mouthfeel. The right amount of aging on the coconut, not too strong not too weak. Excellent brew!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 crusianbeer (116) - Texas, USA - JUN 30, 2010
Reviewed from my phone, so it is shortened.
Little to no head. Nose full of toasted coconut and little else,
almost smells like the outside of a peep!
Little carbonation. Upon tasting, the first thing I notice is how
thin this is. Almost no maltiness to it, and the second thing I
notice is the coconut, it is very nice! This is so thin though. But not too detracting. Nice, covers the 9% well.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bluemooner (554) - East Bethel, Minnesota, USA - JUN 5, 2010
Tap. Jet black pour with a very small, creamy brown head. Aroma is dominated by coconut with hints of chocolate and malt. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel; medium bodied with almost no carbonation and alcohol undetectable. Taste is pretty straitforward: coconut dominates with chocolate, caramel, and some malty characteristics. Objectively speaking, this beer is very well done. Personally, a little too much coconut for me.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 DalzAle (1736) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - JUN 4, 2010
Draft. Dark black pour, almost no carbonation and a rich and smooth coconut aroma. Flavor starts with heavy coconut, cream and then continues with the noticeable chocolate and rich dark malts found in the original Jack Frost. Solid beer all around, and quite possibly the best coconut use in beer I’ve had so far.
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 kbutler1 (1259) - Minnesota, USA - JUN 4, 2010
Draft. RIS aged on a bed of coconut chips is the description. Poured a deep black/brown color with a deep tan slight head. STRONG coconut aroma and taste. This beer is not extremely complex by any means but I don’t think it really is suppose to be. Medium/heavy mouthfeel. Smooth and velvety. 9% abv is well hidden in this one. If you are craving a liquid Mounds bar, then you seriously need to try this beer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 mattyb83 (733) - Minnesota, USA - JUN 3, 2010
On tap. Pours black with a brownish tan head. Immediately pick up the coconut aroma, and some nice coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt notes. Flavor is similar. Coconut, chocolate, and coffee, with the latter two lingering through to the finish. As it warmed it started to develop toffee flavors. Very well balanced, and quite enjoyable. Definitely an imperial stout i can drink during the summer.
