Syd (690), Twin Cities Metro, Minnesota, USA Apr 30, 2008 Cask at TH. Pint pours black to brown and nitro looking with a nice brown head. The aroma is coffee and sweet malt. The flavor is super nice coffee with a lingering sweetness and milk chocolate. The palate is ultra rich and silky. This is uber good.
robertsreality (2462), Minnesota, USA Apr 5, 2007 Cask: Black Color with Tan Head. Subtle Chocolate and Roasts Aroma. Creamy Mouthfeel...and Bittersweet Taste...Sweet Chocolate and Bittering Roasts...Dry Chocolate Aftertaste. The Bittering Ending Allows You to be a Bit More Thoughtful When Enjoying This Session Ale. Very Nice Overall. Stine (1175), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jan 16, 2007 Offered on cask. Very deftly integrated coffee flavor, highlighting the rich chocolate fruitiness of the classic black brew rather than the flattened, oxidized mess it becomes when it’s left to sit too long. Creamy, roasty, smoky. I generally disdain coffee beer in no small way, but this didn’t miss the mark for me by much. theisti (891), Leawood, Kansas, USA Oct 25, 2006 GABF 2006 - tasted and poured this beer. Not sure of the quality of the keg as my opinion varies quite a bit from other posts. I thought the coffee aroma and taste were overpowering, with no stout quality whatsoever in the beer. It tasted as if coffee was masking, not enhancing. BBB63 (3619), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 16, 2005 GABF 2005: Deep brown hue with a very good lace. The aroma is coffee, prune, raisin, chocolate and earthy esters. The taste was really sort of the standard stuff, mocha and caramel followed by bitter coffee and grassy hops with a hint of ripe fruit. It is not all that and I am shocked with the high rating of this beer.
