From growler. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity, light phenolic and roasted malty. Toasted malty and fruity, mellow yeasty and caramelish. Bitter and light herbal finish.

Tap at Town Hall. Looks and smells absolutely amazing. Super dark thick looking pour with a thick brown head. Lots of wood, whiskey, and some fruit on the nose. Palate is a little thinner than I anticipated. Taste is very sour/tart. Still solid.

Bacterial (2871) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - FEB 22, 2013
Draft at Town Hall Brewery. Dark, dark pour. Nose is malty with some hints of red wine. There is a tartness / subtle sourness to this beer. It is working for me (so I donít mind if this was on purpose from the red wine barrels, or due to an infection last year, or both!). This beer is rich and thick and really nice to sip. Itís not my favorite from the BA week this year, but it is solid (though a bit unusual for sure).

Growler shared by Greg. Pours oily black with a thin tan head. Aroma is bakers chocolate and malt with yeast notes. Taste is bitter yeast bakers chocolate faint tannins and cork. Palate is medium and silky with a dry finish.

On tap at Town Hall Brewery, pours a super dark black with a nice tan head. Get a wide array of barrel/wood scents with some cherry, almost get a bit of tobacco. Taste is very similar, a nice woody cherry with a bit if sweet booze, would like to try it with age, but that won't happen. On tap. Thick dark chocolate brown pour, 3/4 inch creamy brown head and an aroma of dark chocolate and a little wine. Flavor was also plenty of dark chocolate, dry oaky wine and incredibly balanced for an imperial stout. My only complaint is the price. Really good beer? Yes. However probably not worth $45/growler.

Growler. Red wine barrels dominate the palate, imparting bold flavors that simply don't work with the base (or the whiskey barrels, for that matter). This beer is a mess! Serves as a perfect example to brewers of how NOT to barrel age.

Draft at Town Hall Barrel Aged Week 2013. Pours a jet black color with a tan head and some lacing. Aroma is fruity, a little roasty, some red wine. A little heavy on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, roasty, lots of red wine, with a soft roasty finish. My least favorite of the three tonight.

On tap at town hall. Black with very deep brown head, looks damn near perfect. Aroma is a bit of bourbon, some roast, and stong notes of tart red fruit. Taste is complicated, I hated the first sip, but it grew on me. The tart red fruit is very strong, a little hint of bourbon in the finish with a big malt backbone. Medium thick body, good carbonation. Not sure what I think about this, its very tart, almost too tart for it just to be from wine barrel ageing. It tasted a lot like last yearís infected Czar Jack, and from what I understand its the same batch.
