islay (405), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jul 15, 2008 16 oz. pour, on cask at the brewpub. Citrus hops are overwhelming in the aroma: Orange first and foremost, as well as lemon. Also a berry presence. Yeasty smell. The aroma is fairly subtle after the initial citrus shock. Pours a hazy copper to dark brass. Slow to settle. Flat, nearly white, creamy head. Nice, nitro-like lacing. Malty taste with a hops kick in the finish. Nutty and bready, like banana bread. Dirt and pine from the hops. Less citrus flavor than the aroma would suggest. Flat, soft, and watery, typical of a cask ale. This beer, like every other cask beer I’ve ever had, would be much better from the keg. Brewers, take note: Casks may be cute and fun, but they don’t do any favors for the beer itself.
Jvittorio4187 (255), Boardman, Ohio, USA Jun 9, 2008 Growler shared by Doc Jackson. Pours a very deep amber with a white head. Aroma is sweet, but full of very citrus hops. Taste is nice and smooth upfront with taste of carmel, then followed by sweet citrus. Finish is sweet then very hoppy. Nice. TomDecapolis (2470), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 1, 2008 On tap at Town Hall. Pours a lightly hazy amber with golden notes and a medium creamy/bubbly off white head that left lacing all over the glass. Aroma of a handful of fresh American hops (Cascade for sure), lots of orange, some pine, doughy and a bunch of caramel. The flavor was to match. Really hoppy with a large does of caramel malt. Hop bitterness was there, tons of hop flavor and liked the heavy does of the caramel malt to balance. tytoanderso (1195), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA May 28, 2008 Tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazed copper with surprising light lacing for a TH brew. Aroma of dank cannabis, bitter orange peel, cedar and biscuity malt. Flavor is quite bitter but nice. Slightly resinous, with hints of tree bark and more cannabis. Very crisp and refreshing. Lively carbonation with a lengthy, oily bitter finish. One of the better pales put out by TH lately. badgerben (3160), Blaine, Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 Town Hall Beer #100.> Well, well, well... my 100th beer from Town Hall. And what do you know, it’s a Pale Ale! Sometimes they get in a streak of making a few pedestrian pale ales in a row. Not this time. Dark copper color with a medium head. Screaming orange aroma and very strong grapefruit. Very acidic burn up front in the taste. Vegetal hop, light pine and orange. Fades into strong alcohol. Dry malt and caramel finish it out with a very slight tinge of toasted or even burnt grain. A great one to celebrate my 100th with!
