Grand Cru is a very mysterious style brewed primarily in Belgium and a few areas of France. Some Grand Cru is sour, some fruity, some weak, and some strong. Our version is brewed with a special malt from France, authentic Trappist yeast, and traditional sugars and spices. After an extended maturation period, tremendous flavors prevail from this light orange colored ale. Look for sweet candy-like flavors that may conceal spiced orange, plum, pear and toffee with a distinctive white wine-like finish. This Grand Cru was just awarded the silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival (2004) in Denver.

This was a fabulous sweet Belgian beer that I really enjoyed on tap at the wonderful Town Hall in Minneapolis.

Color is a lovely chill hazed cherrywood with a slight plum tone within, soft puffy white head and good amounts of lace stick in thin curtains. Lovely aroma, spicy with some clove and yeast, very clean, some nice caramel candy mixed with some light dullish dark fruits of raisin and maybe some fig. Taste is nice as well, takes over from where the smell leads to, clean and pleasantly smooth character with some very nice dark caramel and toffee mixing with some dark fruits and a great touch of spice in both clove and yeast that blend and balance out. Finishes with some malty sweetness then has a calm little floral crispness and favorable spicyness lingers across the palate. Nice smooth and clean character in all aspects of smell, taste, and feel. A well balanced brew, a true keeper from Town Hall. Hopefully this will work its way into regular rotation. Many samples from Winterfest in St.Paul 2004

I first sampled this at Winterfest 2004, 3 weeks ago and was quite enamored of the thing, choosing it as my pick of the fest. I've got a fresh growler, now that it's on tap at the pub, so how is it now?...Solid orange color, with a lively, fresh, bubbling froth above, very appealing...aroma: Wow! This is the stuff! Fruity, and alcoholic, with an ethereal quality I associate with the likes of Abbaye des Rocs or Delirium Noel...spicy, yes, and flooded with dark fruits, grapes, cherries, plums, with elevated by a sublime, otherworldly somethin' else...So, taste, already...mmmm, flavor rides high in this one, spicy, solid, sure, becomes a magical blend of malt, fruit, spice, hops, and, oh, everything nice. The alcoholic content may lend it it's certain whiskeyish feel in the flavor. This is a marvelous nightcap, an excellent guard against this ridiculous February weather, just the thing to wrap around me before I surrender to slumber. I'm sure I'll have nothing but pleasant dreams with this resting inside me. Part of me feels that this "could use a little 'this-or-that", but that would make it more like something else, and I like this one just the way it is...delicious!

Beautiful mahogany with a slight head. Rich dulce de leche flavor unimpeded by carbonation. Sweet, smooth caramel with a coriander and sharp cinnamon finish. Not a hint of alcohol. Amazing that this incredible beer is flowing from taps and available in growlers at our beloved Town Hall.

Pours a brownish rusty dark amber, with almost no head. Watching subsequent glasses being poured I saw an overabundance of tan foam - they had some early carbonation issues, apparently (though not with the first round at our end of the bar). A very mild ’Belgian’ maltiness in he aroma. Very nice tasting beer. Sweet malt and a bit tangy and fruity too. Nicely balanced between sweet and bitter, but no real hop taste is discernable. I love the finish - medium dry, fruity, and tart (reminded me of Rodenbach in the finish). Some people compared the finish of this beer to champagne, but I would say more like a medium dry red wine.

GABF 2004: Clear bronze golden color with a thin white head. Fresh Belgian malty and coriander citrus spiced aroma. Sweet bready caramel malty body with great yeasty spice balance. Finishes rich and somewhat dry with a touch of pepper and hides its alcohol very well. Very authentic Belgian flavor here. An awesome Minnesota brew!

Sampled at the Great Taste of the Midwest 2005. The body has a light orange color with a light tan head. Teh aroma has peanuts, sweet caramel and some tropical fruit, like passion fruit. The taste is very sweet caramel and cherries. A little one dimensional with flavors, but mayeb I need a bigger glass.
