BitterPoet (54), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 12, 2004 I hadn’t had the Fraoch Ale in a while, so I really had no means of measuring this against a standard of any kind.
Nose is autumn with a dash of honey with memories of harvest vegetables coming and going. Think English ESB with a quirky smile. Body is light (but then I expected a dark ruby Scotch Ale-type). Flavor opens its robe to reveal what the nose hinted at: vegetal with fruit and brightness. I was reminded of Sherlock’s Home SOB. I look forward to trying this on cask.
bp (340), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 30, 2008 Draft: dark brown, herbal and earthy with a malt aftertaste, this was an interesting beer, not something I’d order up but worth sampling just to see what something brewed with heather tastes like. Sammy (3240), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 26, 2008 Enjoyed at the brewpub with Al McArthy. Dark, no head. Some sourness from the peatiness, like a good brown. Medium mouthfeel, tasty with some sweetness and hibiscus. Carbonation above average. Not too drinkable. Wierd but worth trying to expand what a beer has been.
BDR (1966), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2007 dark color with rockyhead. Light cocolate malt mix with something herbal on the aroma. Sweet taste with plenty of light chocolate flavor. detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 12, 2007 Pours a clear but unexciting brown color, looking something like a watered down Coke. Almost no head, definately no lacing. The aroma is prominent and very floral.
More of that floral character comes through in the taste. There’s something in there that is almost a mint - not exactly peppermint, but close. Light body and light carbonation, mildly sweet in the aftertaste. Stine (1354), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Nov 27, 2006 Updated: Sep 8, 2007Copper colored with a thin head of foam. Aromas of wildflowers and various shampoos. Tastes like a strong lavender tea sweetened with honey and lightened with cream, finishing with faint hint of malt. It begins to taste very synthetic after only a few swallows. A promising design with apparently flawed execution.
