Growler from last night. Aroma is chocolate malts, some coffee, some grassy hops and faint citrus. Pretty soft malt flavors, lots of hop flavor in the finish. Pretty tasty.

On draft at the brewpub. Pours a jet black color with a tan head. Aroma is roasty, coffee, a little smokey. Medium on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is bitter, coffee, roasty, chocolate, a little burnt, with a bitter coffee finish. The burnt flavor seems a little off, but pretty tasty otherwise.

Date: November 12, 2011 Mode: Draft Source: Town Hall Taps Opaque dark brown with no head or lacing, some carbonation, some coffee with bitter chocolate. Not quite as good as the Java Porter for me.

Tap at Town Hall Tap. Very dark brown pour with a dark cream colored head. Rich aroma of dark chocolate and coffee. Nice dense body, especially for the style. Taste is also rich dark chocolate, some roasted coffee, and a touch of sweetness. Excellent.

Growler to snifter. Pours oily dark brown black with a nice foamy soapy tan redish head that fades to a creamy tan collar. Aroma is rich bakers chocolate and dark fruit with coffee scents. Taste has bitter dark fruit and bakers chocolate with a slight spice and coffee. Palate is full creamy with a soft carbonation and finishes bitter dry. Well done nice and smooth!

Serving glass: Poured from tap into Pint glass. Appearance: Extremely dark brown with thin light brown head and slight lacing. Aroma: Mostly just chocolate and molasses. A little mild. Taste: Mostly dark chocolate and dry molasses in the taste as well. Some light coffee and spicy hops in the finish. Palate: Moderately low carbonation with a smooth, but slightly too thin body. Finish is not as dry as I like in a Porter. Overall: Decent drinkable Porter, but nothing I found too exciting.

Tap. Dark black creamy pour, dark head and a good roasted malt aroma. Flavor was also nice and roasty malts, very rich and thick bitter chocolate, a little sweet lactose and finished mellow. Hope this is on tap for a while!

Nice black color with a quick dissolving tan head. Nice burnt sugar scent and a smooth roasted finish.

Served in a point glass. I didn’t take notes on the description but from memory it was made with burnt sugar and dark chocolate. Pours a dark brown color with a deep tan mocha head. The aroma is roasting with a mix of dark chocolate and vanilla. The upfront taste is a little more heavy roast bitterness than I was expecting but good. Vanilla, malted milk, dark chocolate all come out as this warms a bit. Overall, pretty decent drinker but may be a little too roasty for some. Medium smooth mouthfeel.
