undsioux7 (550), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Oct 2, 2007 Had a taste from the grimreeser. Another nice offering, but not something that would have me coming back for more. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Oct 2, 2007 Red/brown colour with a bit of a head. Wisps of maple in the aroma. Light on the palate but very flavourful. The rice isn’t evident but the maple sure is. Very drinkable and again full of nice flavours. grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Sep 29, 2007 On tap. Aroma is on the tame side, can smell the syrup and wild rice. Nicely balanced flavor. Not as daring as I thought it would be, but solid. tytoanderso (1381), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Sep 28, 2007 Tap at the brewpub. Very light aroma with the maple syrup highlighted. Pours mostly amber with some brown highlights. Thin flavor of rice and maple. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Sep 20, 2007 I think this is only the second wild rice beer I’ve tried, and I must say I’m a big fan. Mostly maple on the nose with faint malt and wild rice. Amber brown color with faint head. Excellent wild rice body with faint maple syrup and well hopped to boot. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 14, 2007 Once the cascading stops, the beer is a light copper amber, just slightly hazy, topped by a good inch of very smooth and creamy foam. Soon, the head develops quite a few pock marks, and then recedes a little bit. Still, good head retention and moderate lacing. Mild head of sweet malt and hay.
Nice combination of flavors, with maple syrup and wild rice right from the word go. The maple flavor dies down somewhat after each sip, turning instead to a dry earthiness. No real hop characteristics, but enough for balance. This beer is definitely a platform for maple and wild rice. The beer starts with a medium body, generously and softly carbonated. About two-thirds of the way through the pint it begins to feel thinner and less bubbly.
I tried a pint of this on tap and on cask, and like the cask better. The tap version showcased less maple, and seemed to be lighter in body than the cask version. The tap version did, however, keep the carbonation better. jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Dec 22, 2006 Tap on 10/28/2005 (rating from notes). Golden amber color with an off-white head. Nice hop profile, mild fruits. Smooth and clean. RAYBOY01 (1812), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 7, 2006 Autumn Brew Review ’05 : Interesting copper colored ale with light maple syrup scent. Flavors of light malt sweetness...caramel and toffee, with hints of maple, brown sugar, and grass. Somewhat insubstantial.
