Poured on tap at Town Hall Brewery into a TH Snifter. A. Rich pitch black pour, thick 2mm mocha head, retains a nice island and ring even after sitting S. Smells of sweet dark chocolate, sweet fruit, figs, and sweet sweet sugar T. Tastes of fine chocolate, sweet cherries, slight caramel with a light toffee finish M. Tingly, medium-heavy body, lightly coarse finish that lingers long after on your tongue O. I really love this beer. It is the base for Czar Jack, and is great on itís own! I ended up having 3 more glasses of it that night. Itís a treat and easy to drink. A couple straws of Jack Daniels and you almost have Czar Jack! Great beer!

Pours a deep black with tan head. Aroma is pretty mild but consists of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, a bit of roastyness, and caramel. Flavor is much more robust and very enjoyable.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2012 Pours a dark, deep brown with a slight head. Dark chocolate & fig flavor with a sweet finish. Doesn?t hide alcohol flavor at 8.6% but a nice stout overall.

On tap at GABF. Pours with a pitch black body and a large, proud tan head. Aromas of chocolate, floral hops, roasty, raisins, tar and chocolate. Flavors are a bit grainy, roast, rich chocolate, some alcohol. Caramel. Medium bubbles, medium to full bodied.

Draft at GABF. Pours a deep black with brown at the edges and a dark brown head. Nose is cocoa, faint vanilla and molasses. Also pick up some prune notes as well as big roast. On tasting, itís on the sweeter side, touch fruity and then the cocoa takes over. Medium-full body. Finish is dry enough, booze is held back. Decent.

GABF 2011. Pitch black with a light tan frothy head. Aroma of roasty chocolate malt and some candy sweetness. Flavor is big, rich. Chocolaty and roasty with a coffee tone in there too. Big body complimented the high ABV, made this a nice sipper. What a find!

On tap at Town Hall in August 2009. Pours a deep, deep black--one through which no light escapes. The head is quite large given the style. Good lacing. The smell is that of chocolate, plenty of roasted malt, a little bit of vanilla, and some anise to round it out. The taste is much the same with a little bit of hop bitterness and coffee. The mouthfeel is fairly full and quite creamy. This is very drinkable for the style and would love to be able to age some of this myself. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-01-2009
