detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 16, 2007 Pours a good healthy near black color, with an inch or so of brown foam. Decent head retention, very nice lacing. Mild roast in the aroma, but not much of it.
Quite tasty beer - good smooth chocolate and a bit of coffee. A little bit of roasted flavor towards the finish, but really this is a very smooth drinking beer. Medium body, moderate carbonation, very mellow - yet still very full flavored. Not overpowering by any means, this is a very nice session beer.
ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 17, 2005 Nice, milk chocolate aroma. Opaque body with small, light tan head and excellent lace. Standard stout flavor. I’ve had stouts like this before. Creamy mouthfeel. Nice flavor but nothing overly unique here. Pigfoot (2225), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Aug 18, 2005 Deep, dark appearance, save for crimson peekings round the edges, with a sturdy cocoa brown head, though quick to crumble, leaving some lace...
Aroma: cocoa and nuts...chocolate, lightly roasted coffee...sweet, and not at all bitter...nice.
Taste: There it is again, rich coffee/cocoa tastes, full flavored, but not too thick, thoroughly satisfying, a great drinker, with just enough body, and just enough taste. This is a great porter for summertime, and the times when you tire of weizens, lagers, or kolsches and need something more substantial. And, the best non-flavored porter I’ve yet had here at Town Hall. It’s juuust right!
This is the sort of beer I could never tire of, and am very happy to find at my favorite watering hole. Just hope it lasts more than a week or two! fatty (363), Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 25, 2005 Very dark black with a cocoa colored thin head. Had to check twice to be sure this wasn’t the stout in the sampler. Nice chocolate aroma. Cherry chocolate flavor with a nice smooth palate. badgerben (3160), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jun 15, 2005 Black color with a thin head. A little bit of coffee and chocolate in the aroma. A solid platform of malt and roasts make the base, with more chocolate and a bit of coffee. A little dry and slightly bitter.
