Coffee and roasted smells on the nose, round and smooth malty mouthfeel that is enhanced with the warmth of the 5.8% alcohol and that is balanced with the bitterness coming from the dark malts.

650 ml bottle bought at the brewery. Reddish dark brown pour with a small brown head. Aroma of chocolate, ground coffee, nuts. Medium sweet, tiny bit salty, light to medium bodied. Finishes with bitter chocolate, ash. A decent, light porter. Tastes good, buy doesn’t come close to the test batch I tried in January that was absolutely awesome.

Fragrant / floral aroma with some grass, hay, and light sulphur notes. Taste is sweet roasty malts that are met fairly quickly with an earthy bitterness. Finishes slightly tarty. Appearance is a clear brown/amber with a beige fluffy head that retains very well.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark mahogany color, some light goes through, with compact head. Mild aroma of roasted malt with a bread accent. Smooth, quite dry in the front, mellow later; good roasted malt flavor with some firewood and oven baked bread, mildly chocolatey; correct bitterness, some of it from the roasted malt, hiding the hop resins.
Fresh, pleasant.

Bottle, shared with Parksy at 5am during the Canada vs. Sweden gold medal hockey game. Medium brown with an average white head that leaves no lace. Powdery cocoa, light roast. Thin, bordering on watery. Just ok.

On tap at Bitter Tasting Room on Hastings in Vancouver. Very dark, but one can see a little light through. Strong licorice impression here, I’m afraid. I’ll drink this, but I’m not up for another.

Lagerboy (1336) - British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 4, 2013
Bomber. Clear deep red copper, lasting small creamy tan head. Aroma of smoked malts and dark fruit. Bitter dark burnt malt taste, some cacao, coffee and sweet nuttiness. Soft carbonation, medium body, low hopped. Cacao intensifies as it warms, flattens and thins toward the finish. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Dark Brown pour with beige head. Aroma is slightly sweet with good roasted notes - chocolate, coffee. Kind of thin in the body. Flavour again is roasted malts with a light bitterness and some salt. The finish is a predominant burnt malt flavour. This reminds me of burnt buttered toast.

Pours dark brown with some reddish tones. Nice malt aromas and a hint of coffee. Cocoa powder in the mouth, nice, but quite simple. Fairly dry and drinkable. A bit hard carbonation. Again, drinkable.
