Very dark, clear, copper color with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. Mild, dark roasted notes of chocolate and toffee. Perfectly balanced, but watery with very lively carbonation. Lengthy, crisp, dry finish. CaptainCougar (4709), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 19, 2007 Bottle sampled on 9/18/07: Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a wispy-lacing froth of dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and lightly roasted malts. Starts with a nice light sweetness and a touch of sticky caramel malt along with good roasty bittering notes and a hint of dark chocolate toward the bittersweet finish. acrdz (4535), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 1, 2007 Updated: Oct 1, 200712oz bottle. Very hoppy porter, and usually I don’t like hoppy porters at all, but there’s actually a lot of like in this one. The nose is minty, with some juniper and peppermint hops, some heavy cream as well, very hoppy, very weird. Thin palate, I don’t like that at all. Sweet and starchy taste, with bitter but fresh pine and peppermint flavored hops, heavy ice-cream yeast flavors and grassy pine hops. Interesting, but could be thicker and more viscous if it’s going to be this hoppy, that’s what I’d prefer.
