beautifulmess (4), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA does not count Aug 7, 2008 I’m drinking year old Porter and it is slamming. Complex and hard to describe. Unique. Licorice meets vanilla coffe bean. Heathen (521), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Oct 21, 2007 THOUGHTS: Barely a porter. It’s like a hybrid beer, like dogfish Head’s India Brown Ale. There were malts and hops that wouldn’t seem to go so well together, but they do.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown with and average-sized, off-white to tan head that mostlry diminished, but left excellent lacing that looked like actual lace on the glass. The aroma was moderate to heavy mild coffee and a little chocolate malt. The aroma was just incredible. The initial flavor was light sweetness and light to moderate bitterness, while the finish was moderate to heavy sweetness and bitterness along with some sourness with an average to long duration. The flavor was coffee then coffee bitternss blending perfectly into a pruce or pine hop bitterness. the medium body was somewhat oily but a little chalky thoughout with fizzy carbonation and a metallic and chalky finish. lb4lb (1439), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 12, 2008 Big thanks to ahatcher78 on BA for the bottle!
Pours a deep brown that is almost black with a big creamy and lasting light tan head that leaves good lacing. Smell is dark roastiness with a very prevalent hop character making its way in the nose. They mix very well giving it a really nice unique, nice nose. Taste is dark chocolate roastiness, with a great vibrant hop character that gives it a fresh almost minty flavor behind the roastiness. Moderate to slightly bubbly mouthfeel making this medium bodied porter extremely drinkable. Definitely one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite porter. dlovell2 (110), Columbia, Maryland, USA Sep 22, 2007 Thick chocolaty head that looks like it was produced at a Starbucks. Hops aroma you don’t usually expect from a Porter. Nice Chocolaty Roasted taste to start before the hops hit at the end. Silky smooth feel in the mouth. This is easily the best product I’ve tasted from Troegs! A great Porter for Hop Heads! jah noth (940), Rochester, New York, USA Sep 20, 2007 Deep plum in color, unfiltered with a very rocky, off-white head. Dark chocolate and some caramel waft from the head. Very chocolately, silky smooth, mellow taste, with a nice sting of chinook at the finish. Creamy and delicious. Well done. It isn’t Alpha Klaus, but it’s not $10 for a bomber either. Thanks DocLocker.
