blindeyedbetty (94), Arlington, Virginia, USA Mar 24, 2008 12 oz. pour from bottle. Raisin-colored with frothy off-white head. Warm, roasted malty nose with hint of chocolate. Rich, smooth caramel chocolate front palate with toasty, almost butterscotch middle and a finish of grassy hops. Beautiful balance, well-rounded flavors that flow together and are far too easily drinkable. Very mellow and smooth. Could be beautifully paired with a nice sun-dried tomato and spinach stuffed beef or pork roast, or a hearty shepherd’s stew.
tarc (41), New Jersey, USA Jul 19, 2008 Botte: The aroma was not too strong of malt or hopps. It poured a clear chocolate brown color with a tan head. The taste was a nice balance of hopps and malt, quite drinkable and smooth. Dead Reckoning was right on target...
Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of lb4lb. The aroma is very citrus influenced, quite hoppy, with chocolate and toasted malt accents. The body is a ruddy brown and it holds a finger sized tan head. Fairly big hop fore, tastes way too hopped for the style in my opinion, downplays the malt attributes. Sweet malt, mild chocolate and a brown ale nuttiness. Just seems to be the wrong choice of hops and hop levels for a porter. I suppose it is decent as a beer, but as a porter, I’m not a fan at all. blutt59 (510), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 17, 2008 bottle, very dark color, nose has a lot of malt and black cherry, flavor is cherry, cocoa and some hop in there, fiinish is dry coffee, very good nearbeer (1091), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 16, 2008 07 vintage 12 oz. Opaque mahogany with a large head that lasts. Earthy cocoa, grapefruit, resin and caramel aroma. Front flavor follows the aroma, with a nice finish of oak, spicy green herb, char and smoke. Medium body is smooth, hop tingly and nearly chalky-dry. jake65 (1185), Meridian, Idaho, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle: Murky, middleweight brown pour with a large, foamy tan head. Thick lacing. Roasty and bittersweet cocoa aroma with hoppy hints up front. Taste maintains the good hop presence with a chocolate and malty smooth finish. I like the crisp hoppy, yet smooth chocolately finish here. Nice little hoppy porter.
