DeadGuyFrank (316), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA Apr 2, 2008 Updated: Apr 22, 2008 Somebody needs to tell the Troegs brothers to reevaluate this recipe. About two years ago I had this I liked, nice solid classic tasting amber ale. Last week, because I had not had it in about four months I grabbed a six pack - holy crap WHAT HAPPENED! Way too much hops, way too much. Very sweet, too sugary grapefruity taste, not balanced.
Sparky27 (413), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of GMCC2181. Pours a super dark, clear amber with one finger tan head and great lacing. Nose is sweet caramel and floral hops. Taste is caramel up front with a nice bitter hop finish. Medium mouth feel. Decent amber – thanks G-Money! GAManiac (200), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear, deep amber with a small bubbly off-white head that shows decent retention and leaves only a hint of lacing. Smell is big on floral hops with a big pine presence on top of a sweet caramel malt base. The taste is a slightly more balanced version of the smell with a more subdued floral and pine hop kick up front that is balanced really well by the sweet caramel malts. Mouthfeel is medium and very creamy with good carbonation and only the slightest hop bitterness. This is a very well balanced amber with just the right amount of hops to give it a good kick. Very nice. gpekar (116), USA Jul 8, 2008 Poured a dark copper red with a good tan foamy head. There was light lacing. A hoppy pine/grassy aroma with a nice mild hop taste and slight caramel sweetness which blended well with the hint of bitterness on the finish. There was a good flavor and an easy drinkable enjoyable beer. The 4th beer in the variety pack tried. twitcher (110), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Jul 4, 2008 bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small-ish head that clears to leave a thin layer and ring. Aromas of orange peels, lemons, and caramel. Flavors of sharp citrus hops, grapefruits, and a good amount of smooth toasted caramel. Bitterness is medium but assertive. Full bodied and even on the palate, with a crisp clean finish. Solid amber ale. GMCC2181 (303), Bear, Delaware, USA Jul 1, 2008 Pours a dark amber, almost brown color. No head. Aroma of sugar and small amount of hops. I wasnt sure what to expect from this beer... But the taste was sweet. I can taste the hops but they arent the bitter hops that I am used to. Brown sugar, cararmel, and some spiceyness thrown in. Unique beer... Smooth and easy to drink. I cant quite put my finger on everything in this beer but I like it. TRY IT!
