Commercial Description:
Naked Elf takes a hard look at the less-is-more theory. Ever since we developed The Mad Elf, we’ve speculated what it would taste like without the cherries and honey. So what lies beneath the fruit? Naked Elf is unfiltered, so the spicy yeast taste is more prominent in this strong, hazy orange ale. The combination of the Pilsner, and Vienna malts give a lot of body and minimal sweetness, but Naked Elf has a dry finish. Finally, the heat of the alcohol makes its presence known in the finish. The Naked Elf’s finest quality is the delicate balancing act between a lively yeast kick and a slight alcohol note that lingers in the back of the mouth—constantly reminding us not to overindulge in this complex, warming elixir.

Swing-top hand-bottle from MrBendo - thanks, Todd! Man, talk about going above and beyond to hook a trader up. Very impressive copper/garnet color on the pour, with faint carbonation (not still, but just a hint). Very dry yeasty aroma to the fore, with the fruits and malts in the background. Some aromatic stuff like coriander happening in there a bit, with the faintest spice kick, but a slightly too watery finish. Solid stuff, but it’s almost like the beer is reticent about its own personality.

Nice copper color with small white head, alot like mad elf but not over flavored, very smooth and a great sipping beer, a nice finish that makes you want more. one of my favorite seasonals

Poured amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma of spice and fruit. Mostly belgian fruit flavors to start with some pine mixed in. Finished with some cherries and spice.

served from the tap in a brandy snifter @ Capone’s in PA (from 2/7/08) A: A clear rusted amber/copper with a thin white wispy head that quickly diminishes and leaves no lacing at all. Looks like a refreshing glass of iced tea. S: And speaking of tea...I detect sweet tea leaves and a nice earthy undertone, to go along with an obvious honey note. Slightly medicinal, and very fruity from the yeast. T/M: Honey right off the bat, had a slight metallic aftertaste when it was too cold, became much more sweet & fruity (mostly bananas) as it warmed in the glass. There were still faint traces of cherry flavors in this beer, and a very thin, almost flat mouthfeel didn’t take away from my enjoyment. D: I couldn’t believe that this was 9% ABV, it was incredibly smooth and super-drinkable. Too bad it’s so rare and hard to get, glad I had some though.

Draft at Capones - Paler golden color with a medium white head. Aroma has quite a bit of candy sweetness with some citrus, honey, and spice. Flavor has alot of tripel-ey candi sugar present with some solid orange and sweet bready goodness. Good tripel, just not knock your socks off kind of stuff. I think I would still prefer a regular mad elf, but only when in an extremely fruity mood.
