Hoptagon (57), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jan 28, 2008 12oz bottle. Thin quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is lightly hoppy with some pine, but doesn’t smack you in the face in the same way as as most 2IPAs. The hop flavor is where this beer really shines, lots of Summit hops followed up by some well balanced sweet malt and a touch of astringent bitterness. Overall well balanced and a bit dangerous at a deceptive 7.5%. Excellent session beer for hopheads.
thickfreakness (52), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 18, 2008 Tasted on 4/28/08. Thanks to HopDerek on BA for this one.
It pours and looks like an average amber ale with a nice one inch head that lasts for about 5 minutes. The smell is almost pure hops, piney, grapefruit, and a little bit of floral hop smell with a little bit of caramel malts sneaking through at the end. Taste is similar to the smell but even more balanced than the smell led me to believe. Nice and hoppy with a respectable caramel malt backbone. I could drink this one all the time. Oh, I also wanted to add that this is definitely one of my favorite labels of all time.
StFun (289), Indiana, USA Aug 11, 2008 Bottle thanks to GMCC2181! He wrote me a while back, asking if I’d had this yet, and I drank it soon after, but just now entering the rating. Very nice mix of hops in this one. A great creamy texture, with a bitter hop punch, and piney notes in the background. Great malty backbone as well. Has a nice thick mouthfeel. Feels stronger than 7.5%, but it compliments the brew almost perfectly. This is a great IPA and was a really nice beer. Thanks Gabe!! Bockyhorsey (1951), Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 10, 2008 12oz bottle courtesy of Sparky27. Real good pine and floral aromas hit the nose. Copper body with off white head. Spiderweb lacing left on the pint glass. Good citrus orange flavor, sugary and mild bitterness. A dryness lingers on the palate. Overall a good beer glad you gave me one Eric. nqualls (113), Tennessee, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pours a clear copper/amber color with 1 finger of head. Minimal lacing. Aroma was of citrus. Taste was of very earthy hops. Very good beer. Hank1980 (343), Athens, Georgia, USA Jul 27, 2008 Pours a clear amber, with little head, and lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine hops and sweet malt. Tast is also hoppy, though more malt than a typical hop bomb. Hops are also a little earthier than I was expecting. Mouth is pretty sticky and body is relatively average. Not bad.
