CaptainCougar (4663), Rockville, Maryland, USA Oct 19, 2007 Bottle thanks to mj: Pours a clear dark copper mahogany with a thin-lacing wispy off-white head. Big, fresh grapefruity hoppy aroma has some toasty caramel malty notes. Starts pretty rich and malty sweet with some big citrusy, piny resiny hop character toward a crisp, bittersweet finish. A really hoppy barleywine that could practically be a IIPA. Not sure how well it’ll age though. hopdog (4645), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 14, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured a deeper burgundy color with a smaller sized tan head. Aromas of pine, citrus, caramel, floral, and a trace of fruitiness. Tastes of caramel, toffee, citrus, pine, raisins, roast, and a trace of chocolate. Nice and hoppy. acrdz (4364), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 29, 2007 Updated: Dec 5, 2007Draft at the brewery on release day. Deep garnet purple and brown colored body with a thick-layered toast colored head. Big nose of caramelized and roasted plums, some dry but inviting burnt hops, simcoe and columbus mostly. Reminds me of Bigfoot, without the insanely aggressive hop bitterness, since it’s actually smooth. Very rich and creamy on the palate, very full and delicious, and the 9.3% feels really good. Love it! Glad I bought a case.
