crizay (1056), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Feb 21, 2008 Big thanks to Kramer. Black pour, small almond head. Aroma is licorice, raisens and chocolate with some roasty notes. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, caramel sweetness and a hoppy finish. Dark chocolate dominates with roasted malts and coffee in the background and a medium caramel sweetness. Citrus hops finish it off and is just the right amount. Licorice and anise are in the background as well the whole time. Pretty thick body and a nice slick finish. Just a damn good imperial stout.
Ibrew2or3 (1443), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 11, 2008 Courtesy of Gillard. Pours dark brown with nice mocha head. Not very stoutie looking brew. It has a somewhat mild aroma with roastiness, medium dark fruity esters, a bit earthy and vegetables. Not the greatest aroma. The taste is very similar with medium dark fruitiness mixing with some roasty malts, faint chocolate, faint malt astringency and some molasses and earthiness rounding things out. Interesting. stegosaurus (1846), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 3, 2008 Bottle sampled. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and fruit. The flavor is sweet, chcolate, fruit, roasted malts, coffee, and mild bitterness to the finish. Good brew. pint_size (772), Austin, Texas, USA May 2, 2008 4-11-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to kramer17801
Dark chocolate brown black color with a watery tan head and some lacing. Has a smoky smell but overall not that bold in the nose at all. Flavor is light roasted smoky honey and chocolate. Dry flavor and finish. Drinkable and chocolaty. Balanced and enjoyable but not very flavorful or bold overall. Beerlando (1003), Orlando, Florida, USA May 1, 2008 Pours a dark chocolate brown color that shines slightly translucent on the edges. A dense, spongy, beige colored head settles slowly to a thin rim, leaving sticky rings of lacing behind. The nose is very fruity for an imperial stout. Caramel, figs, raisons, chocolate, and cream are well blended, but show more like a big weizen bock than an impy stout. Flavors are pretty much the same, but turning a bit more roasty and stout-like. Caramel plays a huge role, lending its luxurious sweetness to bitter chocolate, candied dark fruits, and bitter earthy hops. Roasty coffee and creamy chocolate join forces to create a mocha feel. The body is thick, almost full, and very creamy. It does finish with a good deal of alcoholic heat, however. A dry roastiness lingers on the palate. Throwing stylistic ideals out the window, this is a very solid brew. It definitely resembles a huge, malty, roasty weizen bock more than an imperial stout, however. jimbowood (666), Athens, Georgia, USA Apr 28, 2008 bottle. Bittersweet chocolate with thin presentation and mouthfeel. Nice brew, but heat and bitterness distracts.
