hopdog (4657), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 5, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured a medium an hazy yellow color with a larger sized white head. As soon as I popped this one open, I was greeted with a strong grainy almost vegetable aroma. Skunky and sweaty. Tastes of grains, some sweetness, and citrus. A style I’m not crazy about, but this one was drinkable... acrdz (4406), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 30, 2007 Draft sample at Troegs. The first scratch beer that doesn’t do much for me. It has an almost funky sour grain husk nose, but it’s fresh, with fresh corn, potatoes and other starchy scents. Rough and heavy on the tongue but not thick, it’s moderately bitter and dry, turning pasty in the finish, with a corase, almost lactic quality, and a general flavor of potato and corn. Strange. Could it be that I just don’t like dortmunder at all? I’m beginning to suspect something like that. DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 17, 2007 Bottle from Capone’s. Semi turbid deep gold pour with off-white head. Aroma of fruity yeast, dry floral hopcitrus, mild candi sugary malt. Tastes bready, pale malty, with hopcitrus, a touch of rye notes, and some finishing florals. BBB63 (3810), La Porte, Indiana, USA Feb 1, 2008 Bottle from Adrian and served in a standard pint glass: Pours a hazy golden hue with a nice lasting frothy head and left okay lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of bready continental malts, grassy and herbal hops (can notice the Saaz), slight pear and honey esters. The taste starts with a moderate level of sweet grains and supported by a light handed herbal bitterness with just a touch of fruity twang in the background. A touch sweeter than I would like for the genre but all in all a easy drinking and refreshing bier. More favorful than many Dorts likely due to being unflitered.
