Commercial Description:
Revisiting Scratch #3, we take the same Tripel recipe, add beet and cane sugars to the kettle, and run the wort through our hopback brimming with juniper berries, coriander and yarrow flowers.

Inspired by the herbaceous nose of gin, the berries and flowers give a slight pine/citrus aroma with floral undertones. Scratch #8 has a dry, yeasty finish and noticeable alcohol warming when consumed.

Bottle. Hardly any head even with a hard pour. Gold color. You would swear by aroma only it was some sort of imperial hefe, with plenty of spice and banana. Flavor is bubblegum and coriander with a bit of sulfur. Sticky and sweet with a dash of cinnamon and black pepper. This beer is a train wreck, in the fact that it’s a spicy tripel and way too sweet and hoppy.

12 oz bottle courtesy of fordest (thanks). Poured a golden color with a small white head and some white floaties. The aroma was very light with Belgian yeasts and spices. The taste was extraordinarily spicy with cloves, allspice, nutmeg and wheat. Malty mouthfeel. Long, dry, spicy finish. Overall: Lots of big flavors in this little beer. Very nice.

Pours a slightly hazy dull yellow with a thin white head and some lace. Aroma is lemony, ctirus, pine needles, and sap- pine sol and wierd esters, peppery, tanguerey-like juniper-gin-like but also some wierd citrus and earth. Flavor is a bit on the sweet sugary wide, with some beet sugar burn and earthy kick, more jiniper citrusy and pine, and yeasty phenolics, a bit too sticky sweet, low carb, and not much of a belgian tripel at all. Just a strong golden ale with some spices- light on the belgian character overall. Meh- I just wasnt into this one too much..

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a small white head that receded to a ring immediately leaving no lacing. The aroma that jumped out at me was the juniper with some bananas and spices, especially coriander. This is all accompanied by the Belgian yeast and light malt backbone. The taste has an initial sweetness of candied sugar and a hint of hops. This is followed by biscuity malts and the juniper which lingers through the finish along with a healthy dose of spices. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with very little carbonation and pretty dry. This is a drinkable offering from Troegs but not one that knocked my socks off.

12-oz bottle received via Secret Santa July 2008. Pours hazy orange with a small, fizzy, white head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, straw, meal), average hops (flowers, herbs, grass), heavy yeast (horse blanket, barnyard) with notes of banana, pear, apple, and wood. Full bodied, sticky and gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Seems like a classic witbier aroma of coriander with a little flowery/herbal kick to it. Fairly tart, and a little heavy on the spice flavor with a rather sweet/tart finish. Quite think on the palate. Reminds me of a good witbier that needs to go to fat camp and lose about 50 lbs.
