Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Medium brown, fairly clear and light penetrable. Small thin ring of white foam. Sweet and rich malt smells. Very nutty (roasted almond, pecan) with some caramel. Rich almond and toffee notes, some bitter cocoa or slight espresso maybe. Not as sweet as the nose implies, some dryness and alcohol present. Warmingly alcoholic. Fairly strong carbonation, medium heavy mouthfeel. Pretty drinkable.

Nice aroma of caramel and malts, some earthy notes. The appearance is true to the style, a nice red/brown, off-white head. The flavor is nice, a malty, bready and caramel flavor. The finish is just malt, nothing spectacular, no hoppiness. Nice thick mouthfeel. Overall, a decent dopplebock.

Bottles in trade form Hopdog and Leftmindedrighty. Thanks!
Pours a dark clear reddish color with a smallish creamy beige head. Smell is lightly smoky and sweet, musty malts. Tastes lightly smoky and a touch tart with toasty biscuity and caramel maltiness. Slight taste of alcohol in the finish. Full body and soft to medium carbonation. Pretty good beer, but just don’t think I was in the mood for this today.

My bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of Thaichile. Pours a very deep ruby with a spare frothy off-white head. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, light spices and faint hops. Flavour of caramel malt, light spices, some sweetness and some alcohol. Medium bodied. Pretty decent, I enjoyed it.

(Sacrificial offering from July 18, 2008 Beer Club Meeting) Super dark amber with light brown head. Smells almost like… yes, like the smell of a German brewery while walking downtown streets. That dirty, musky, sweeet malt of an aroma. Tastes almost of a spicy mint malt… very good and woody, I think. I like so very much!
