dkachur (641), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Apr 30, 2008 Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop, North Location, Charlottesville. Pours reddish brown with a BIG head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar and banana. Very malty taste. Toffee, brown sugar, a little alcohol. Thick feel.
tgncc (208), Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 25, 2008 Nice aroma of caramel and malts, some earthy notes. The appearance is true to the style, a nice red/brown, off-white head. The flavor is nice, a malty, bready and caramel flavor. The finish is just malt, nothing spectacular, no hoppiness. Nice thick mouthfeel. Overall, a decent dopplebock. lb4lb (1275), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 22, 2008 Bottles in trade form Hopdog and Leftmindedrighty. Thanks!
Pours a dark clear reddish color with a smallish creamy beige head. Smell is lightly smoky and sweet, musty malts. Tastes lightly smoky and a touch tart with toasty biscuity and caramel maltiness. Slight taste of alcohol in the finish. Full body and soft to medium carbonation. Pretty good beer, but just don’t think I was in the mood for this today. blipp (599), Grand Island, New York, USA Jul 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep amber with a beige head. Caramel malt aroma with toast and chestnut. Full, creamy body. Flavor is lightly roasted and sweet malt, with caramel and toast. Very good. blankboy (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2008 My bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of Thaichile. Pours a very deep ruby with a spare frothy off-white head. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, light spices and faint hops. Flavour of caramel malt, light spices, some sweetness and some alcohol. Medium bodied. Pretty decent, I enjoyed it. ansermadide (160), Kyle, Texas, USA Jul 18, 2008 (Sacrificial offering from July 18, 2008 Beer Club Meeting) Super dark amber with light brown head. Smells almost like… yes, like the smell of a German brewery while walking downtown streets. That dirty, musky, sweeet malt of an aroma. Tastes almost of a spicy mint malt… very good and woody, I think. I like so very much!
