Commercial Description:
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as "liquid bread", a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix "ator," we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

(Sacrificial offering from July 18, 2008 Beer Club Meeting) Super dark amber with light brown head. Smells almost like… yes, like the smell of a German brewery while walking downtown streets. That dirty, musky, sweeet malt of an aroma. Tastes almost of a spicy mint malt… very good and woody, I think. I like so very much!

Bomber from Rivers Bend.
Pours brown in color with ruby highlights around the edges. Decent inch of frothy head atop the beer. Smell is slight toffee and a bit of a lager smell as well. Mouthfeel is pillowy soft and very nice. Taste is lacking a little complexity and strength. Needs more toffee/caramel and a supporting flavor. They nailed the mouthfeel though.

Dark brown pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of brown sugar and rich roasted malt. Flavor is full malt with hints of light bitter. Nice mouthfeel and carbonation. Very good DB.

Bottle. Dark burgundy with a fine head and good lacing. Nice malty aroma, caramel, molasses, and a bready yeast odor. Flavor is sweet and satisfying. Smooth, easy drink. Not outstanding but definitely good.

A bold brown ale with a thin tan head, this 2xbock has great malt taste, a touch of roasty toast and sweet molasses. Definitely one to try.

Bottle. My first Troegs, just finally started distributing to Ohio. Looks good enough, but definitely not like the picture shown here. It was much darker, rich brown in color with a tiny head. Aroma is strong malt fitting of the dopplebock style. Flavor is also strong than I expected...very sweet, very malty, all backed by a big roasted punch. Very flavorful. I want to try more Troegs beer, along with this one again.
