COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Bavaria, a unique strain of wheat beer yeast produces an array of distinct flavor qualities typical of a true Hefeweizen: citrus, bubble gum, clove and banana. Trader Joe’s Bavarian-style Hefeweizen is fermented with this exceptional strain. In accordance with the German purity law, this superior beer is brewed with a minimum of 50% malted wheat. Beer Stats 5.3% ABV, 12 I.B.U. Fermented with top fermenting yeast. Brewed for Trader Joe’s specialty grocery stores.

Bottle, as Josephs Brau Bavarian Style Hefeweizen. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head and no lacing. Aroma is sweet, with wheat dominating, some grassy notes in there as well. Flavor is wheaty, lemony, medium sweet. Watery mouthfeel. Not bad, a little too sweet for me.

Refrigerated bottle poured into weizen glass. Pours hazy light orange with large golden hightlights and good size bright white head. Good lacing, medium body, wonderful banana & clove aroma. Taste is clove and banana. Good.

Pretty decent hefeweizen. More of the yeasty banana than the citrus. A little watery at the end. Serving: Bottle

The best overall choice of the Trader Joe’s beers. It’s hard to get a bavarian style hefe up here with many opting for the more US-focused citrus flavors. This is a bit thin for an unfiltered beer, but the taste is crisp and nice

Looks like a hefeweizen, smells like a hefeweizen, and tastes like a hefeweizen... a good one. Surprisingly to the style of a real German one. Great esters and fruit aromas. Mellow malts. Banana. A bit of spice. Hint of sweetness but nothjavascript: RadioSel(overall,14);ing too much. Good beer. How does Trader Joes do it?

Appearance was reddish cloudy golden 3 finger lasting white rocky head. slight lacing. Aromas was sweet biscuity malts with the yeasts shinning through floral, bubblegum, bananas, cloves, nutmeg working the nose out, great. Taste was not as good as smells, sweet biscuity malts and hints of citrusy lemons. Yeasts where slightly musty with fruity notes. Palate is off with creamy and spritzy carbonation, didn’t like this. Delicate body with long and slightly warming finish. Could be better if...

From notes. First reviewed 9/17/2011. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. The Trader Joe’s Bavarian Hefeweizen has a sandy golden color with a hazy center and a soft frothy white head. It fades to a ring pretty quickly and doesn’t bother leaving any lace. Banana really dominates the aroma. Some light clove is there as well. Cereal grains provide the support. The flavor is more malt centric than the aroma. Bready grains bring a honey sweetness. Moderate banana flavor and some hushed clove spiciness come out of the yeast, but overall it is fairly clean. Very typical mouthfeel for the style. Slightly creamy carbonation, a little bit grainy, sticky sweet, with a light to medium body. This is another acceptable beer from TJ’s. Better than BMC for sure, but it is not quite up to basic craft beer standards.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2012 The aroma has a bit of acidic citrus as the expected bubble gum, cloves, and banana. But, it somehow doesn’t really impress me. The appearance is amber with is odd for the style. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall a little off and not completely likeable but not a bad beer.
