COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Bavaria, a unique strain of wheat beer yeast produces an array of distinct flavor qualities typical of a true Hefeweizen: citrus, bubble gum, clove and banana. Trader Joe’s Bavarian-style Hefeweizen is fermented with this exceptional strain. In accordance with the German purity law, this superior beer is brewed with a minimum of 50% malted wheat. Beer Stats 5.3% ABV, 12 I.B.U. Fermented with top fermenting yeast. Brewed for Trader Joe’s specialty grocery stores.

It tastes like a sweeter Franzikaner Hefeweizen with some water thrown into it. I’ll pay the extra dollar for the 6-pack of that instead next time.

Pours a dark copper with a white, fairly quickly diminishing head. Smells sweet with a bit of clove and bubble gum in the nose. Taste is also sweet, and, again, very very bubble gummy. Interesting, refreshing and good for the price.

bottle-cloudy bright orange composed of sluggish carbonation, and a spritzy off-white head. banana, white grapes, and some estery bubblegum on the nose. flavors are metallic and very cardboardy with an undertone of banana. the body is thin and the metallic mouthfeal definately takes this one down a notch. finish is badly cardboardy (bottle was less than 2 months old). dissapointing.

Tasty, zippy lemony. Honey flavor. Great body, especially for whatever Giglio paid for it when he stocked this at his party.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a nice head with residual lacing. Scents of banana and citrus on the nose. Flavors continue with the lemon banana theme as well as some spice. The first few sips were suprisingly good and I was thinking that I was really going to like this one. As the beer warmed, the flavors became diminished and although it still remained within the realm of a hefeweizen, it lost some its clout. I would still have another as it was better than alot of those Hefe pretenders.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2008 Hazy golden amber, creamy white head. Nice nose of clove, banana, and mellow vanilla, with soft wheat bread tones throughout. Flavor continues as advertised with more clove, banana, very faint bubblegum and citrus. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bready, lightly spiced finish. Not the best, but certainly a decent effort. Good price per 12oz single at $0.92...

Pours a nice light hazy amber with nice sized head. Aroma is nice - clove and banana are most up front. The beer goes down very smooth - spice and banana are still very prominant and a very pleasant full wheat flavor. Very enjoyable beer. Could easily be mistaken as an authentic German hefe. Excellent value for the money.

Saarlander sent this my way in a recent surprise box. erway gave a spot on description of this one, right down to the weihenstephan yeast similiarity! excellent flavor, but it has too much carbonation for my liking.

Pours a cloudy orange with an abundant but very bubbly champagne-like head that settles into a whispy cream on top. The aromas are all weizen yeastiness. I’m betting they used the weihenstephan yeast. Bubble-gum, orangey citrus, bananas and cloves are all abundant as well as an underlying vanilla character. The body is lacking a bit with a wateriness that I am not fond of. The yeast flavors are pretty damn perfect but there seems to be a lacking wheat character. Nothing to point out as wrong but not perfect. Let me tell you though, this is damn better than many $7 or $8/sixer weizens and Trader Joe’s should be proud to put there name on it. $4.99/ sixer. That is just hard to beat.
