3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This beer is gold in color with an orangish, amber tint to it. The head is average in size, creamy and foamy. The aroma is fruity and malty with a hint of citrus. This is a decent Hefe Weizen. Flavors are not tot complex, lots of malts, with hints of clove and banana. The mouthfeel is smooth, rich and full. Finish is kind of sweet with a light touch of bitterness. All in all, this is a very nice, easy to drink beer!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 2, 2005 Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Tupalev, bottle courtesy of GregClow. Pours murky orange with an average off-white diminishing head. Aroma - banana (specifically banana-flavoured candy). Also citrus, sweet malt, tobacco ash, spices. Flavour orange-banana, sweet malt, a bit of hops - and a bit spicy; it’s sweet but a decent mild hefewiezen. Mouthfeel pretty complex and decent body - I enjoyed it, definitely the best of the 4 Trader Joe’s brews sampled.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(12 oz bottle: Trader Joe’s in Pacific Beach, CA) I’m trying this with a little trepidation because I’m really expecting some serious mediocrity here. It pours golden-orange color, and the small off-white head that quickly fades to a thin, but complete layer atop the beer, but it holds there for quite awhile. Hmm, the nose isn’t bad at all, it actually smells like an authentic German Hefeweizen, showing solid notes of banana and bubblegum, and a hint of clove. Banana and clove are present in the flavor, but not to the degree they are in the nose. These components are tempered by the wheat maltiness and modest lemony sourness. It’s also good that the sweetness is kept in moderation too. Body is medium, carbonation is sufficient to keep the palate lively, and the body never trails off toward wateriness. I must say, I’m very pleasantly surprised by how good this beer is, especially since it’s a style that is usually mediocre here in the States, and so at 84 cents a bottle, it’s a great value.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very pretty for the style: Pale, hazy yellow; monstrous, silky head. Aroma of wheat, citrus, and banana. Flavor similar, with wheat and citrus; slightly buttery. Medium body; clean; bubbly. A nice, light hefe. Pleasantly surprised by this.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very cloudy dark gold, looks like a jar of high quality honey. Head is thick, white, fluffy, microbubbled and lasts forever. Smells faintly of spices and yeast, with faint being the key word. Taste is good and wet, but balanced well with dry coriander seed and clove. Malty, rich ending. Really a superb drinking beer that took me off guard, especially at its economical price.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a cloudy orange with a white head. So much banana esters in the flavor and aroma, it got a bit warm by the end of the glass and it reminded me of a banana smoothie or something, kinda sickening when it got warm, but good while it was cooler. The clove esters are more subtle, giving a kick of spice when needed. The nice carbonation let the wheat show through a bit in the aftertaste.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Hazy dark straw, moderate white fizzy head, spotty lacing, lively carbonation. Banana, clove, and bubble gum nose, smells authentic enough. Somewhat dull clove flavor, a little bright on the tongue, notes of banana and citrus round things out. Moderate body, not as full or thick on the mouthfeel as I had hoped. Its actually a little bit fizzy. Slighty wheaty finish, lingering citrus and clove. Needs to be a tad fuller me thinks, heartier if you will. Otherwise, not bad for a Trader Joe brew, probably the best so far.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2005 Bottled. #10 of 31 U.S. beers in honor of <a href=http://www.americanbeermonth.com>American Beer Month! Foamy head sits atop a yellow body. There’s the usual big banana nose and taste. This does have a noticeable wheat component here, but this beer could do with a little more balance.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours only a little bit hazy; deep golden with a nice thick white head. Aroma of banana and clove. Flavor expectedly has the same banana, clove, wheat notes along with bubblegum and yeast. Disappointingly thin and watery body with moderate carbonation. Very good head retention. Overall, solid.
